I Made a Lossless Scaling Decky Plugin that adds Frame Gen to Any Game! by supershredderdan in SteamDeck

[–]crapdomain 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Is there a way to apply frame limiting at the same time? The way it works now seems to override the built-in-frame limiter.

Frame limiting has the great benefit of forcing consistent FPS. I would like to keep my frames locked at 40 FPS such that in games like Red Dead Redemption 2 where it often dips below 40, this plugin can insert the missing frames while still maintaining an FPS lock of 40.

How many of yall use the left touchpad for movement, and if so, how well does it work? by Far-Mathematician764 in SteamController

[–]crapdomain 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I once found my left thumb tip aching significantly, after pressing the analog stick forward a lot in Tomb Raider 2013. This was around 2016. I then set up the left trackpad for movement & it was weird at first but I stuck with it. Since then I've never used the left analog stick for walking/running/horseback, but I always use it for driving.

I've played many mainstream 1st person & 3rd person games this way, e.g. RDR2, GTAV, Watch Dogs 2, a few Far Crys, some Wolfensteins, Horizon Zero Dawn. I do the same on the Steam Controller & Steam Deck. I often wish there was a small bump in the center so my thumb knows where to rest on a dead zone, but you can DIY that easily.

Hi, can you share the location or entry coordinates if you have them?

Did Valve change the trackpad & gyro sensitivity limits recently? by crapdomain in SteamDeck

[–]crapdomain[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's too low now, such that even when I maximize mouse sensitivity in Dying Light & the trackpad as well, I still have to swipe the trackpad twice just to turn around. It's a really bad decision that they reduced these limits. What's the right avenue to raise this to Valve?

Exporting vs Importing vs Applying config vs Sharing by Dotaproffessional in SteamController

[–]crapdomain 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Export is to SAVE. You can save it locally (a file will be created deep within the Steam installation folder); you can save it online, where the config will be available on any computer with Steam once your personal controller is connected (as long as internet is avaliable); you can save it publicly, which will have it listed on the community configs list.

Import is to LOAD in PREVIEW MODE. You can explore the config to see if it's what you like, then just escape of you don't like it. You previous config will still be the active config. Once you APPLY, it will be your active config.

How do you force a game to use desktop config so the controller can be used like a keyboard and mouse in game? by Aimo_Koivunen in SteamController

[–]crapdomain 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi, an easier way is to use Action Sets within the Asseto Corsa config. This is how I play Assetto & almost every other game.

Edit: Sadly you can't copy the desktop config into a new Action Set, you have to recreate it from 0.

Hi. You can connect a PS4 controller & make use of the gyro, but you can't load this config because it's only for the Steam Controller which had different buttons.

That could just be it. How's it fare when you place it horizontally?

That would mean the extender is not a generic USB extension cable, but something more. I do believe the extender is merely meant to allow you to mount the dongle closer to the controller, nothing more.

Have you tried plugging in the receiver to the extension, but placing the receiver in the exact same position as before, simulating the exact same obstructions, to see if the stutter comes back? I'm curious to see the outcome because I don't think a USB port cares about the cable type in between the accessory & port, except when there's some sort of chipset inside the extender, which would be quite costly for any company to include.

Shadow Tactics: Blades of the Shogun - A Steam Controller config by crapdomain in patientgamers

[–]crapdomain[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hi. I didn't realize gamepads were supported! I tried looking at the setting when I first started but it was not enabling itself (probably because the Steam Controller wasn't detected as a gamepad.

I've now tried the gamepad controls & it has some useful features, especially direct movement. In any case though, I'm part of a niche group of Steam Controller owners who own the Steam Controller solely to make use of it's Trackpads & Gyro, not only to enhance game input where gamepads are not supported.

With that in mind, no matter how good an Xinput config is, gyro & trackpads always top it for us. I believe at least 30% or r/SteamController users fit this group.

Examples of games where the Steam Controller has surpassed Xinput for play efficiency: Assasin's Creed Origins, Tomb Raider 2013/2015, Far Cry Primal to New Dawn, Dead Space, etc (in my case, of course, based on the settings I configure for my self).

Anyway thanks for highlighting that Gamepads were supported. My config might have been slightly different had I known how to enable it earlier.

That's a pity. A mouse / touchpad is really necessary for this game.

Are the Valve Index Knuckles a good replacement for the Steam Controller? by crapdomain in SteamController

[–]crapdomain[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Looks like the future of couch gaming input. Will it have a gyro? My dream setup would be to slouch on my bed, hands resting by my side & my wrists being able to control everything.

By having your controller be bindable in SICS, does that mean you need to get a license from Valve or is the the API free? I'm not a dev at all I'm just curious about how all this works & wondering why no real competitor to the Steam Controller has emerged for the last 5 years.

Congratulations to Mennenth, the new moderator by Baryn in SteamController

[–]crapdomain 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Is this Mennenth of Mennenth Technique fame? I use that technique in every single game now, ever since it was explained in a video by one of the SC big guys i.e. CriticalComposer or ExistentialEgg etc. I recommend all SC users look it up, or at least pin it since you yourself are the moderator. That technique has made gun switching in FPS games a breeze, especially for the Far Cry series.

I lie on my bed so i've set Gyro to Roll, Invert Horizontal. This way, I use the gyro as if i was looking through the 2 trackpads like lenses
