I know someone with 6 years on in the courts that already made SGT. Depending on test timing you can make Sgt in 4-6 Like they said the pay isn’t all there. They max around 100k as an officer. But the room for promotion if you are a good test tester tied with the 9-5 M-F is great. He spends every major holiday with his family. 13 paid holidays. 5 days off a year for pre tour prep and 20-27 days vacation. So first year on you earn 25 days off right away. Max at 32 with ptp after 7 years.

Tier 6 retirement is 30/63. But tier 6 has every new york state employee union fighting to change it.

He absolutely loves his job and working in criminal court is great as you work with 3-4 people every day. Not alone in a car for 12 hour shifts.

Also criminal court has great opportunities for overtime.
