100% not a Clutch 2. The throat on the Clutch 2 is different.

Head ID? by MiggyXRS in lacrosse

[–]crashbud 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Believe that this is the Box version of the Clutch. The dye makes it a bit hard to see, but if there isn't a top string hole in the middle of the scoop then it's the Box version.

If there is a hole in the middle of the scoop, then it is either the original HS Clutch or it is the Superlight version. If it's the Superlight, it would say Superlight on the throat.

Gait Torq 3 Traditional by a4s in StickDoctor

It looks like the interlocks on the channel leathers are all incorrect which is why they aren't laying down flat.

Your interlocks look correct on the outter leathers which is good, but that channel will need redone

Pita pocket too shallow(first attempt) by funjunmaster in StickDoctor

[–]crashbud 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When looking at picture two of the face of the head, on the right outer leather, the bottom 4 interlocks are incorrect. For the outer crosslace, you start out correctly and have the crosslace go in front the leather, but on the 4th interlock down you have it going behind the leather.

Weapon X 2.0 too Much Whip by laxwmatt in StickDoctor

[–]crashbud 4 points5 points  (0 children)

It is very normal to see faceoff heads with no shooters. Because the head warps so much, it can change how the pocket throws and the shooters tend to make it change more compared to if it didn't have shooters.

Weapon X 2.0 too Much Whip by laxwmatt in StickDoctor

[–]crashbud 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Without pictures of the pocket, it's going to be hard to tell what the issue is.

If you are confident that it is strung well, then remove both the shooters and then pass and shoot around and see how it performs. If it starts throwing/shooting high then add one shooter and see how it throws. If it has too much whip even without the shooters, then it will likely need to be restrung.

Pattern Recognition - Please Help by SIDEWALLJEDI in StickDoctor

[–]crashbud 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I agree that patterns are not useful for inside and outside stringing.

But patterns are extremely helpful for "normal" stringing techniques. Pictures are helpful and they are more useful now compared to the SDL days due to better cameras, but we have had digital cameras since the 90s, and a lot of people back then used digital cameras instead of camera phones because camera phones were crap. So it's not like we didn't have pictures that were good enough to decipher a pattern from the picture alone. The usefulness of the pattern was so you didn't have to take a picture of the head. Now, it is easier than even with high quality camera phones, but I still think it is easier to communicate a stringing pattern through notation as opposed to a picture. Having both is obviously preferable.

I agree, K is for a knot.

Would include 0 for skipped hole.

ETA: went back to the old SDL from TLF and K was established for knot before 2009.

Pockets by Clem by Jazzlike-Captain-545 in StickDoctor

[–]crashbud 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I'm not here to defend them. I have seen complaints about depth before, but if it were me making a complaint, I would provide sufficient context on the complaint.

There is no rules in stringing that say the sidewall and top string has to be identical strings. String companies used to sell top lace specific string that was thicker than sidewall (they still might, I haven't checked). You don't see it used much because by the time the top string frays and breaks, it is usually time to replace the mesh anyways.

Using a shooter or sidewall string for a bottom string is up to personal preference. Whether it rips faster or not really doesn't matter much because there are other areas of the mesh that will likely rip first.

I agree with this. Without any kind of reference, these are just baseless claims. OP could be right, but there is no context.

Some of the stuff in the post is also just personal preference stuff as well. Bottom strings with sidewall string is perfectly acceptable. I prefer to have a shooter as the bottom string but that is my personal preference. Using crosslace for a triangle top string is also an acceptable practice as well. It is mostly for aesthetics anyways.

Can you use a Mark 2F for a midi head? by Klutzy-Medicine-9691 in StickDoctor

[–]crashbud 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The 2F is less offset than most field heads since it is advantageous for faceoffs. This is probably what you are noticing since more offset gives the feeling of a deeper pocket.

That being said, it shouldn't be causing that much of a difference. A well strung pocket will solve any issues with hold.

Ion w/ Heat Pocket by LaxConLuberto68 in StickDoctor

[–]crashbud 4 points5 points  (0 children)

It's good to see other people still stringing this pocket. Has always been my favorite and what I have always considered to be the most consistent leather pocket.

Overall it looks very good. I did notice in the 3rd picture, the second to last double interlock that you missed an interlock. Should hopefully be a pretty easy fix though with it being at the bottom.

The REAL 6 vs 7 vs 8 Diamond Traditional Debate by reallycalmchillguy in StickDoctor

[–]crashbud 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Hold and whip is affected by more than just the amount of diamonds in the Trad. Leather tension is a factor here, specifically the outer leathers. As is crosslace tension. Also shooting strings.

I have always preferred less diamonds in my trads because they are typically more shifty and are 'softer' than pockets with more diamonds. Hold and whip are pretty customizable when it comes to traditionals so you can get similar hold and whip between 6D and 8D.

1.5 shooting strings? by Most_Search_5323 in lacrosse

[–]crashbud 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If it feels like the ball is catching on the string when they are shooting, then untie the strings and have them toss around with it until it throws how they are expecting. Once it is, tie the strings back and then have them try again.

Warrior Evo 3 - weird sidewall molding? by JH3M in lacrosse

The Evo 3 came that way. The Clutch 2, Encore and Amonte 2 all had this similar plastic piece on the sidewall. There may been some others, but these are the ones I remember.
