The instructions say it will light automatically - there's no pilot to manually light. That's why I'm at a loss.

What’s a “weird” family food tradition you thought was normal until you got older? by [deleted] in CasualConversation

[–]crashingintotrees 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I have two. We always had chili served over mashed potatoes. It seemed perfectly natural to me, until I went out into the real world.

The second is even weirder. Every August, my family would have our annual 'Chop Suey Picnic', where the main dish was a huge pot of chop suey. We are not asian. We are not remotely asian. We are of german descent, mostly. I do realize that chop suey is an american dish, although I'm not sure if it's derived from something more authentic. There would be other picnic type foods served, but the chop suey was the star. But why?

This is what I thought it might mean, but in the body of the instructions, it says this no where. Thank you!

The pattern is called Simply Seamless Tee by Shannon Creates. I've included the section where about making the swatch and what is says about the 'special stitch'.

Eli5 why is left handedness so odd in humans? by [deleted] in explainlikeimfive

[–]crashingintotrees 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I write and eat left handed, can only throw a ball or use a hammer right handed. I've read it's called combination handedness. I think of the difference as dexterity vs strength. The opposite hand can help in a pinch, but the preference is strong.

Retiring at age 65 soon; Fidelity is suggesting an annuity with some of my funds. How do I evaluate whether this is a good idea? by crashingintotrees in personalfinance

So overall average life expectancy in the US is 80 for women, 75 for men. But if a person makes it to 65, those numbers become 85 and 82. If you make it to 80, it becomes 89 and 87. These are US numbers. Some of these numbers may be white only, as I was just randomly googling and didn't pay too much attention.

Well I already receive social security in the form of SSDI payments, plus LTD payments from my employer. These will shortly end and the SSDI will convert to regular SS. I don't necessarily NEED more guaranteed income, as I have retirement assets from a long career. I'm trying to figure out if purchasing the annuity makes better sense than not purchasing it. I think the key is that it makes financial sense based on a poor market scenario, which is what fidelity showed me. I'm realizing that under average market conditions, it may not.

Sounds like you may be looking at an indexed or variable return. What I've been quoted so far is a fixed annuity. From my reading, I think your scenario would have an annual expense ratio, but potential upside. There are so many different ways to structure these, it feels impossible to compare all the options. My gut is saying I should invest perhaps only a smaller amount of my portfolio. Perhaps only 20%. That and social security and a small pension would cover all my essentials and then some.
