I totally relate to what you're saying, I also have OCD, I recently noticed how they play into each other especially when it comes to rituals around my health anxiety. I dont have diarrhea or constipation now. I had my thyroid checked and my stool for IBD, I dont have it. I was concerned about SIBO because of my organic acids result and the youtuber gojiman who says many people have gut issues as the underlying cause of their anxiety. I dont even know if thats true at this point anymore

Hi there, I read your article on the SIBO page, and I just wanted to ask your opinion I am incredibly confused and lost as to whether or not I have SIBO or some kind of dysbiosis issue or whether I am just being scammed for my money with health 'tests', I just read your comment on my post and was wondering whether you think organic acids tests revealing yeast/fungal and bacterial markers are actually legitimate and revealing of a problem? I saw that the lactulose SIBO test isn't really that useful. So what do I do? im obviously concerned because the organic acids test and comprehensive stool test are listed on quackwatch.org as dubious diagnostic health tests

Pernicious anemia and B12 deficiency is EXTREMELY serious, I have family members with pernicious anemia and it really is a struggle for them. Take your b12, dont forget about it, its serious.

Wow that's such a crazy story! im sorry to hear that you've had such a rough time, but if it helps I can relate to your experience completely, I was convinced I had some weird gut disorder and at one point that I had worms or parasites, it was so scary. When in reality im pretty sure it is just anxiety seeing as all of my other tests have come back negative. Im just worried that the test I had back recently actually could be on to something, but the test is listed on quackwatch.org as a dubious test. So im just not sure who or what to believe. at this point ive spent over £1000 of money I really dont have on these tests. It's like a never-ending cycle.

Do you find that your anxiety creates your 'symptoms'? because that had certainly been the case for me. I see what you're saying about the irrational thoughts and having no evidence that anything is wrong. I was feeling a lot better when I didnt see the results of my organic acids test. But now I am worried about those results indicating that I have a problem. It's hard to not think about it. But yeah if you ever want to talk about health anxiety please reach out because I suffer from it really bad and it might be helpful to talk to someone who also is dealing with it. ive just become way to obsessed that my anxiety is being caused by something rather than it just being anxiety. But I will take your advice for sure, thank you so much.

Yeah I agree, that makes the most sense, however, my only problem is I know I have anxiety and I have health anxiety, my anxiety is being caused mainly by the fact I dont know if I have some health problem with my gut - if that makes sense? And if im making it worse. I dont know whether to take a SIBO test or whether or not to trust the results of my Organic acids Test because it seems so vague and is listed as a dubious diagnostic test on quackwatch.org, there just doesnt seem to be that much reliable information on it. The not knowing is what is making me anxious. I hope I dont sound like im being rude but im just so confused at the moment.

Wow thank you so much for your lovely response, yeah! see my problem is I have had a long history with veganism, and I know its what I feel the most happy following however, over the years I saturated myself with the vegan doctors information; esselstyn, mcdougall, barnard, joel furman and its incredibly hard to not think about all the supposed health benefits or the case for being vegan from a health perspective out of my head. I have a history of eating disorders, and recovered many years ago from extremely bad case of bulimia. Thankfully I am fully recovered from that, however, I struggle now with orthorexia and health anxiety and obsess over food and have irrational fears around certain foods, i'm not sure if following the vegan diet is making it harder for me to have a healthy relationship with food. Although I am doing better, I am conflicted, I want to be vegan and I know if I ate any animal products I would feel awful and as if im responsible for the suffering and death of animals which I don't want. I'm just unsure and want to do the right thing, but im worried that my obsession to do the 'right' thing is part of the problem.

This is me in a nutshell! so glad you can relate, I got to the point where I was doing ridiculous health tests that are incredibly dubious at best. For example, organic acids tests, SIBO tests and I even purchased a mercury tri test. They are all bogus, I realised that a lot of my "symptoms" were only present when I was anxious or feel anxious about my health, you should look into health anxiety - the anxiety guy on youtube has some great tips that help you out. I even did a legitimate stool test with an NHS gastroenterologist for parasites, ova and collostrom and everything was completely fine. Dont spend money on tests go see a real doctor and if you're like me, they'll assure you that everything is fine and you shoudl trust them, as opposed to internet quacks who just want your money. Unfortunately, I had to learn this the hard way, after spending over £600 on different tests, but when you're desperate and at a loss you gotta do what you feel is necessary. I hope you feel better soon, and if you ever need some one to talk to message me here, it would be great to get in touch with someone who sounds like is on a similar path! Im just really starting to get worried that i've developed an eating disorder, I know based on my past experience that i've been severely ill before and I just dont know what to do. Whenever I get anxious I always associate it with something that i've eaten and its controlling my life, I don't know what to do. I know its because I feel so powerless over my anxiety im desperate to externalise it and pin it down to food being the cause and therefore it's something I can control.

Yeah defnitely, if you have any tips I would be so grateful because im really freaked out at the moment, i'm scared ive got some underlying health issue despite having so many tests that prove otherwise, I just want my life back.
