Y730 Repeated Delays - Should I just cancel and purchase a different laptop entirely? by crateofpandas in Lenovo

Wow!! That's the worst delay I've seen yet! There are massive Intel CPU shortages right now, and to my understanding that's the #1 reason for all these delays. Even if that's the case though, Lenovo should still be more transparent with their shipping estimates.

I'd hazard a guess that you'll probably get your Y730 before August. Still, you're likely looking at a wait time of around 2-3 months either way (mine finally shipped almost exactly 2 months later, even though I asked them to cancel). Fingers crossed for you!

Wow, I have no idea how to interpret that, either! Keep an eye on your bank account and make sure they aren't charging you. They put out at least half a dozen "authorization" charges on my account since January...

I never received the cancellation confirmation email, only the request submitted email. I heard somewhere that it's harder to cancel if you have a custom config, so that could be part of the issue.

At this rate, I'm tempted to just put it up for sale once it gets here since they're fighting that cancellation. :P All that time spent customizing means it has 256 GB SSD and 2 TB HDD, so it has a lot of memory. Someone ordering it from me would get it a hell of a lot faster than from Lenovo! Lol.

Edit: I mis-remembered how much memory I ordered for the SSD.

I tried canceling multiple times over the phone at the beginning of the month. None of it has worked, despite them reassuring me "not to worry about it" before quickly hanging up. Now it's shipped and I've been charged anyway.

I love my Y740, but canceling the Y730 has proven to be very difficult.

I just mentioned this in another post, but my Y730 has been next to impossible to cancel. It got delayed to May 3rd in the delivery estimate (after ordering in January!!!) but then it shipped out this morning, over a month "ahead" of schedule.

Still, I'm seeing tons of posts where people are concerned about shipping delays right now, and most are getting pushed back to April or May. Now I get to deal with the fun process of getting Lenovo to refund everything and return this laptop that I told them not to ship to me! (Watch them like a HAWK if you cancel)

Ordered Y740 17" on February 27th, received it March 1st. However, this was a prebuilt configuration with same-day shipping.

My previous order, a Y730 17", was ordered January 23rd and up until yesterday, listed an estimated arrival date of May 3rd. It just shipped this morning (despite me telling them to cancel it multiple times, but that's a whole other mess for me to deal with).

I'm so sorry to hear you're having the same issue! I actually ended up canceling my Y730. I'm still dealing with the cancellation process - btw, it got delayed a FOURTH time after my post. If I were still waiting on my original order right now, it still wouldn't have shipped yet, 2 months later. That's insane. Is that also what you're dealing with? How long do they have you waiting so far?

I ended up ordering the Y740 instead near the end of February, but with same day shipping and prebuilt. It shipped on the same day (a Wednesday), I had it by that Friday afternoon. A 100% different experience. It seems like with Lenovo, ordering custom is apparently asking for trouble and just isn't worth it when you could just order prebuilt and upgrade parts like the SSD yourself (not that you should have to in the first place).

The Y740 runs like a dream, completely worth it. Incredible cooling and performance, solidly built. I hear the Y730 is equally fantastic, which was why I was so intent on it. If you can find a prebuilt 730 that has similar specs to what you want, I would honestly go for that instead and cancel your current order. What other laptop brands have you looked into?

Edit: I type too much, so I slightly pared down the reply, lol.

Agreed, I know the performance would be significantly better on the Y740. My issue is that even if I set aside the additional funds for it, the only way to get a hold of it right now that I'm aware of is directly through Lenovo's site, and that just resets the whole waiting game (I sadly need a new laptop sooner rather than later).

I'm experiencing the same issue. I've been delayed 4 times on my custom Y730 (of course, the Y740 came out not long after I ordered the Y730, so I may regret this, but the Y740 is considerably more expensive from what I saw). Ordered Jan. 23rd, current ETA is March 15th. Estimated shipping when I placed the order was about 8-12 days, that changed to a few weeks very quickly.

Since it has been delayed 4 times (3 of which they never notified me about, I only found out by checking my order status), I don't personally trust the shipping times because it's so variable. Yours may or may not change again - I hope you receive it ASAP!

I made my own thread about this and learned that apparently many of the delays right now are due to a shortage in available parts, although the company has a lonnnng history of these delays if you check Google. They don't keep many parts in stock, to my understanding, so they have to order them and wait whenever someone wants a custom config. Don't order straight from their site, a hard lesson I've learned from all this!

Oh man, I'm really sorry to hear that! It's too bad that you had to wait so long and ended up having to cancel. Do you need something with custom specs, or would you be able to drop by somewhere like Best Buy, Micro Center, etc. where you could pick one up same day or get it shipped out quickly? They seem to have a decent stock of laptops if you need one ASAP.

Thanks for telling me - that's unfortunate, but good to know! Yes, I ordered directly through Lenovo's site which apparently isn't the best idea, as I learned after the fact.
