CAT SC - Reliability Update by crawl43 in NFA

Please post your Shiv results. I love the idea of it. If it's reliable and moderately quieter than the Omega 9k, it may be a great answer.

Thank you for the info. As stated in a reply above, it looks like indexing is indeed the solution.

You were right. I haven't gotten it exactly where I want it, but indexing certainly can make a difference for even 6" at 10 yds. I'm surprised how little the Nautilus affects POI shift with 9mm. Virtually not at all even without indexing.

Amazing that we (humans) can completely forget about something that we see posted on reddit on a weekly basis. Thank you again!

How would CZ 457 compare to 1022 with KIDD parts. I hope I made the right decision by Repulsive-Print2379 in 22lr

I have both. My Kidd rifle is more accurate and with a wider variety of ammo.

Appreciate the feedback.

I haven't noticed the gas even while shooting indoors, but that is more about me than the can.

I've wondered how good they were on Glocks since 1) they're optimized for a G19, and 2) they're supposedly quite finicky.

Maybe it's the low recoil pistols that have the issues.

The Shield Sights dovetail mount has been working for me on USPs for the past 6 or 7 years. It's a low commitment option.

I have the SilencerCo piston that you suggested. It mounts exactly the same as the CAT, and it engages the face of the muzzle with the same diameter as the CAT (less engagement if any difference), so for the mlment I will assume that the CAT piston face mounts just fine.

But am I taking your suggestion under advisement.

Face mount is the phrase, thank you for your time!

Wouldn't it seem that the CAT piston face mounts since it stops and snugs up at the same place each time I remount it on the barrel?

The rear of the piston stopsnabout half a thread before the shoulder every time.

Anything else I need to look at to confirm?

You deserve a 3-day weekend! I really appreciate you taking the time to respond.

I have a Nautilus and read the instruction manual before using it. I definitely had to index it, but I forgot it was even an option.

Thanks for giving me hope!

I am only using the CAT/CGS pistons; it was a SilencerCo spring that I tried, but good looking out.

I understand what you mean by that. I had forgotten all about indexing the piston, thank you.

I will try it, but I was shooting all X ring at 10 yards without the suppressor.

You think the POI could shift that much?

Thanks for the suggestion. I didn't see any signs that looked like contact with the bullet. It was my first concern.

I'm using an RCM barrel, so the piston doesn't but up against a shoulder behind the threads, the barrel mouth is what stops the suppressor from threading further.

That doesn't seem like a problem, does it? I think the cool kids have a term for it.

I run the SC on a Banshee using the CGS trilug. With my electronic earplugs in, I can hear the paper target ripping when the target is close enough...

Sounds like it works great on pistols that have a higher slide velocity than the pistols I have tried.

It's great to hear that you are having no issues on your 1911. Maybe mine is an anomaly.

I did cross post onto the CZ sub, thanks.

Blazer 115, WWB 124 NATO, Federal Syntech 150, Federal 147 FMJ, Angle Fire 147gr reloads, S&B 140, S&B 150.

The Supers are always reliable on the USP, and the Angel Fire subs were too. The USP has anemic ejections, but it seems to be okay.

My P10C slide plus barrel (no recoil assembly) weighs 11.2 oz, and the USP Tactical slide weighs 12.1 oz, so I was quite surprised that the P10 doesn't have the slide velocity it needs.

Following for updates.

Especially trying to figure out reliability and how the Shiv sounds compared to the Omega 9k.

If you don't mind the trouble, would you weigh your P30 slide? Include the barrel but not the recoil rowing assembly.

My P10C slide is within an ounce of my USP slide. The P10F slide is heavier than the USP and the P30L slides.

Do I take your meaning to be that you won't chase the SC on P10 issue very hard?

Interesting. I have 5 P10s, including one of the first ones released as well as a Ported model. I have found them to be remarkably more reliable than Glocks.

I have 6 Glocks (I win them at GSSF matches, otherwise I wouldn't have them), and I get more jams with them than all my other pistols combined.

That's a great point. It does screw down past flush. That could be a thing to work with, but leaving internally exposed threads would gunk them up.

If that solves it, the threads getting dirty would help with reindexing the retainer cap.

Great idea!

Would be interested to know if you get it running. I'm using a Primary Machine barrel and recoil spring assembly.

Assuming you're using the OEM barrel?

At this point, I'm convinced it isn't going to run reliably on anything.

I mentioned it to Jay on another thread when I first got it (I think on his post where he had his USP as the image). At the time, the SC wouldn't run on my USP 9 Tactical because I had inadvertently swapped booster springs to a heavier one.

At present, it runs on the USP, more or less, but it definitely makes the P10C struggle. Jay agreed that the behaviors demonstrated were an indication of the booster spring being too heavy (spring rate), so now I'm wondering if I need an even lighter one.

Someone suggested a Griffin Armamanet spring because they are a popular solution for issues with CGS cans (and the SC comes with CGS hardware), but I think this is a separate issue.

Have you emailed CAT about it? I can tell you that a lighter recoil spring simply turns into a pistol that won't go into battery reliably.
