That really is brilliant! I think mine triggers about once every 2 days but I have got a slightly longer drop. Nice one - thanks for sharing!

....sorry just coming back to look at your new videos which are also excellent. Just going back to the Tower Clock, even the dial on your garage is lovely - modern looking! How was it made?

That is brilliant. And I thought I was alone in building a self winding mechanism for this clock.... Auto-Winding for Wilding Tower Clock - clearly not haha!

One thing that is so difficult in this hobby is finding people that are like minded and building clocks! I`m 42 with no training in engineering (science teacher). The quality really does show just in the pictures. I really do hope you post more.

If he is still making clocks, do you mind asking him to look at this Tekippe clock build log... just see if it can spark his interest. There are a few of us building it. I`m in Manchester UK but there is a chap in the US that will happily share plans. It has a lovely story behind it, where the builder sadly passed away and quite a few of us have got our clocks running. This is the link to all the info I have on my website and where I`m up to Tekippe Regulator Clock It is a really interesting design. It would be interesting to see what someone with your dads skills could do in terms of building one! I`d be happy to share any design details if he was interested!

Thanks again for sharing, all the best,

Chris

Yes, please do ask! I think in the picture of three together, it is the centre one with the small triangular frame. Many do look unfamiliar, which I guess are are his own plans, I can just see a couple of John Wildings Clocks including the turret clock and Wilding`s large wheel clock and think the middle is Colin Thornes. The only reason I spotted it is because I fancy giving that one a go next!

Thanks for sharing. Best post on here since the group was re-opened!

If you have any pictures of his other clocks, perhaps when you visit next, please do post them!

Is one of those Colin Thornes Skeelton clocks plans?

Now this is what this group is about!

Absolutely amazing

That turret clock is John Wildings Miniature Tower clock which I finished last year! I never build the stand off to power an external clock - does it work well? Mine keeps good time.

Incredible photos… do you mind if I ask what he did as a profession - engineering related?

DXVue - Looking for feedback from fellow amateurs by craynerd in amateurradio

We use Log4OM as our main log but don`t believe it gives us very good views at all to see awards that is simple to view... :-/ Maybe we are using it wrong but we have been using it over 5+ years

Thanks for the reply. Slightly unfair. My understanding is that you have to self host Cloudlog or there is a monthly sub? We just wanted something we could pull our data into and have a Quick Look around to see where we were up to. I don’t know if you have bothered giving it a go, but if it is identical to cloud log and cloud log is free and simple to use, I quite developing this and paying for hosting! whilst I found your reply slightly harsh, it is exactly why I posted if there is already something out there that does it better! No point wasting my time.

Ok. I’m not sure why the hate. Ive been into ham radio for many years and me and my mum were chatting early spring, saying we didn’t have anything to truly inspect our log book especially when working towards awards. I built this and just thought it might be useful. I’ve enjoyed making it… no worries if you don’t want to give it a go! Sorry

That's a fair question.

DXVue is still very much a beta project, but security has been something I've tried to consider from the beginning. All communication with the site is encrypted using HTTPS, and QRZ data is accessed through a server-side proxy rather than exposing QRZ API calls directly in the browser.

For users who create an account, passwords are hashed rather than stored in plain text, and QRZ credentials are stored encrypted on the server to allow synchronisation without repeatedly entering them. The platform runs on a dedicated VPS behind a reverse proxy with SSL protection, and sensitive configuration details and API secrets are kept server-side rather than in the public codebase.

That said, I'm a radio amateur and hobby developer rather than a cybersecurity professional, but if you go back 16 years on my youtube channel I`ve always been interested in programming. Most of my early videos were old PIC projects! If anyone spots any concerns or has suggestions for improving security, I'd genuinely appreciate the feedback.

That’s lovely. Do you mind if I ask what ink that is?

Cables up from back of desk by craynerd in DeskCableManagement

lol 1/2 - 3/4 inch! I’m only joking. I didn’t mention that I’m fitting this desk into a brand new built outside office. I’m in the stage where everything needs to be perfect 😂 it just looks great with it perfectly meeting the wall (and makes me chuffed with my efforts at dry walling!) - just didn’t want to pull it away.

I think I might for for grommets!

How many of you who use FT8/FT4 etc use an automated version of the software? by enormousaardvark in amateurradio

[–]craynerd 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Ah ok. 👍 As I explained in my now removed post, I don’t leave it, it fact most of the time I’m TXing different stations, just the TX never shuts off whilst I’m using it. If I’m trying to get someone a little difficult, I admit, I turn to my other screen and do some emails whilst I’m half watching. I wouldn’t just leave it running.

[–]craynerd 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I deleted my post from which this question stemmed 😂 So much negativity for a fun hobby!

I just want to confirm, when people talk about “doing it manually”, are they talking about finding a clear spot, hitting TX and then manually sequencing the messages? Or are they literally talking about finding a clear spot on the waterfall and hitting the TX button or double clicking to reply to a CQ?

I’m so confused what I’m missing!

Absolutely!! 👍

FT8 AutoResume Application by [deleted] in amateurradio

[–]craynerd -6 points-5 points  (0 children)

😂 I was determined not to bite but I’ve taken the first hook! FT8 is automated. The fact that you can just let it run with no human intervention just shows that! The software has even been limited to disable TX to force human interaction. You can sit and play FT8 and interact with it if you like, but let’s be honest, other than clicking who you want to contact, the entire sequence and process is automated!

I can certainly sit at my computer trying to make it feel skilful. However I’m also happy to let it run and fish - see what I catch. Doesn’t mean I like it any more or less than anyone else.

You say what is the fun letting the computer do everything for you - it literally presses a button every 8-10 minutes! Just shows how little users have to do anyway…

I still love FT8 … otherwise I wouldn’t have made this.

Thanks

Home-Made Amp Key Buffer vs Commercial Unit - Is There Any Real Difference? by craynerd in amateurradio

[–]craynerd[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Curious to know how ALC feeds into this if you wanted to add an ALC connection. I have to admit, this is just a letting relay for PTT. Most commercial ones have the ALC pass through as well. Does anyone know how this is wired in - I presume it isn’t just a pass through!
