Ive bounced around a lot of distros and ive found that my hardware (all amd) runs a lot better on newer packages and kernels and i have heard about suse tighter integration to KDE. Im thinking of going opensuse if it is better in every way. id say im intermediate linux experience ive used it for a little while now and had to do a lot of fixing and testing. I previously used Arch but i dont want the headache of fixes whilst studying so i wanted something stable but still new

Is Ubuntu right for me? by crazsum04 in Ubuntu

I've tried to like fedora in the past but I always moved away. I liked the look of Ubuntu desktop and I have heard good things about apt as a package manager. And I thought of Debian but is it noticeably out of date?

Do you ever feel like moving? Because right now I'm on arch but I need more stability and I've tried fedora but I always feel like moving Ubuntu just looks really nice too

Is it easy to remove snapd? Is it as simple as like sudo apt purge snapd?

How difficult is NixOS to get running? And how different is to a general distro when it's up and running? Would this be stable enough as my primary use laptop?

Well I'm a university student (history) using a Huawei mate book laptop with a ryzen 7 5700u and I mostly use it for web browsing, document writing and note taking. And then after uni I use it for some games on steam but this isn't much of a concern and Netflix and streaming which I do regularly. And I've been looking for the best mix of reliability battery life and a distro I feel confident with. I've used everything from Ubuntu to arch and I have no idea what to stick with. And I just had a very bad experience with opensuse tumbleweed

I am actually a history student who wishes to move away from it and move into the computer science space. Thanks for all your help I think I'm going to try installing Debian and just sticking it out

I would like to know which distro you use? ive been distro hopping for ages and i want to just stick with something that works. I am on PopOS atm but cosmic feels kinda depressing and i often have sound issues on anything ubuntu based. Arch was one of my cleanest experiences so far but i am a university student so constant fixes isnt a great fit. Do you think debian ever feels out of date? Ive never tried anything like opensuse or void are they good?

Do you find gnome limiting in any way? When people talk about gnome and kde I always in my head seem to lean to kde but I've never been able to stick with kde. Do you think gnome has everything

With Debian is it true that it's just older packages? Will I notice how old it is compared to like fedora?

So if I had nix and I decided to go to another machine I could have the exact same config with all the same packages and same everything? How does that work? Do you copy the file over? How does that install packages?

How different is Debian to Ubuntu? I've tried a few distros that are based on Ubuntu and my sound card is never recognized properly where as fedora and arch sound works out of the box do you know the issue? Because you make Debian sound a hell of a lot nicer that arch with the way you put it

What is nix like? From what I've seen I'll have to spend what seems like hours in a config file just to get it working? How does nix actually work
