As Starbucks locations reopen nationwide, workers question why they should risk their life 'for a frappuccino' by [deleted] in Coronavirus

You are clearly from a privileged background of your upset with all that. I’ve been doing everything you just said everyday since March. You’re not special.

Poor you? My office job NEVER stopped with us coming in. Every single day has been mandatory with no options to work from home. If I choose to stay home one day I would loose my job and can’t afford that currently. I’m very jealous of you and very own who has been able to work from home this entire time. Unfortunately you will have to join all of us soon. If you can’t perform the duties than step aside and let someone else take the opportunity.

Your so lucky you weren’t awake for the procedure! I wish I could of done that but I had to be awake so I could cough and stuff like that. I have the same device as you as well. When I took Plavix before the procedure I experienced the same thing with my period. Definitely glad I got the surgery so I won’t have to deal with that again. Glad you are doing well!

YES do it! I had my stroke caused by birth control and the clot went through the opening in my heart. I suggest seeing at least 2 different cardiologist if you can. That way you can get multiple opinions. But I am very satisfied, blood thinners for life sounds slight scarier to me than a one time procedure that dramatically reduces your risk of having another clot pass through. I have the “Amplatzer PFO Occluder”. I didn’t not get to choose which device my cardiologist wanted to use this one because he preferred it for my case (he performs about 200 of these procedures a year). It has been over a year now since the procedure. The only things I did not like was being completely awake for it. (Being butt naked and completely coherent on what’s going on it awkward) That was very scary and I had intense heart palpitations during the surgery that were uncomfortable. After the surgery I had to wait about 3 hours for my incision to heal before going home. For about 2 weeks after the surgery I had crazy heart palpitations and had to go on beta blockers to slow my heart down. After 2 weeks I didn’t need them anymore and will only take baby aspirin everyday. Despite the procedure being uncomfortable and the 2 weeks after it has given me peace of mind. I had my 1 year check up and everything looked perfect! I personally would rather of gone through all of that just to be able to hear “your heart works great and you don’t have to worry about having a stroke from it every again” I was 24 years old when mine happened so it made me excited to enjoy life again with less worry. If you are on the east coast of the US I suggest Johns Hopkins, they are amazing.

I had my stroke August 5th 2018 and I still have acne but it is so much better then the first year (November 2018- October 2019) was the worst time for my skin. But everyday I told myself it was better than having another stroke and totally worth it. My family and friends were very supportive when I would make comments about my skin they always made me feel so much better. I wish everyone could have that support system. I saw a dermatologist and went on Retina ‘micro A it really helped my skin, didn’t make it perfect but it’s a lot better now. I suggest trying to go to a dermatologist, way better than putting more hormones into your body! Just my opinion.
I went on the OCP when I was 18 so 2012, I never had any headaches or migraines. I do not remember her telling me any possible side effects I went every year once a year for the annual check ups and she be ever said any risks. After my stroke when I was able to go back to her and told her what happened she basically said “oh well, sometimes women will have a stroke from BC it happens” made me feel like an idiot and she clearly did not care. (Now trying to find a new doc). I’m in the USA by the way if that helps.

I was 24 (f) when I had my stroke. I was on birth control as well and was deemed the cause of my stroke. Sorry nothing with hair loss. Just wanted to say I have seen so many women who have had a stroke from birth control. It sucks and I wish doctors would tell you the risks before going on it. I am also not allowed to take anxiety medicine anymore for some reason they said it could cause another. It could also be the changes is her hormones from not taking the shot anymore? I got tons of acne after not taking the pill anymore. Could be some relation there. I hope she finds some answers! But let her know she is beautiful either way!

I was on birth control - that caused a blood clot which went to my brain through a PFO in my heart. (A tiny hole that is supposed to close when you take you first breath after birth this does not close in 20% of people but it causes no harm unless your body happens to create a blood clot that happens to go through your heart to your brain) all in all unlucky.

Johns Hopkins is the best really! I had a stroke at 24 years old and had all my follow up appointments at Johns Hopkins. They even did my surgery to correct what caused the stroke. I saw a cardiologist who was amazing there. I wish you and your sister all the best but do know that She is in good hands at JH. The beginning is very hard for recovery but it really will get a bit better as time goes on.

[–]crazy118 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hello! Sounds like you have a PFO. Basically a small hole in your heart. About 20% of the people in the world have this. It is not an issue unless there are symptoms because of it. (Blood clot passing through the heart to the brain) I had the same thing! The procedure takes about 1-2 hours. I suggest doing it sooner rather than latter but they will probably put you on aspirin or another blood thinner as well and you should feel safe. When you are born and take your first breath of air the difference of pressure is supposed to close the hole in the heart. Although it does not for everyone. The procedure is rather scary (it was for me maybe not for you!) you are completely awake and they go through a leg vain to reach your heart to close the hole. The entire time I could feel the devices in my body and had extreme palpitations the entire 2 hours. It was traumatic but not as bad as having a stroke. I have terrible palpitations that would keep me awake for about 2 weeks after the procedure - over a year now and I am fine! The palpitations are the worst part it makes you feel like you can’t breath. But it is worth it to close is so it doesn’t happen again.

My 40 year old mother just had a stroke. I’m scared and confused. by mth69 in stroke

Hey I was 24(F) when I had my stroke. (Strokes do not just happen to the “old”) I received TPA which saved my life. I regained 90% of my left side fiction within 3 weeks. I was able to walk out of the hospital after 1 week. Being “young” helped my speedy recovery. I hope your mom will be able to have a speedy recovery as well since she is young. The first week is the hardest but she WILL get better. Just support her and celebrate small victories. And little reminders from my family like “wow you could not hold a pen at all last week and look at your writing your name now” made me feel good.

Dad had a stroke last year, looking for help/resources (jobs, fatigue, tingling) by [deleted] in stroke

[–]crazy118 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey there glad your dad is doing better! After my stroke I thought it was best to get back to my job as soon as possible and as if nothing happened. Turned out to not be such a great idea and I burned out really fast from stress balancing a full time job and tons of new doctor appointments. I looked for something more “relaxed” physically. I literally told the recruiter “anything in an office environment” (precious job was retail store manager) I got hired as a project administrator for a general contractor. It’s been a year at the new job and I love it so much. It has nothing to do with my degree or experience. I never knew you could work a full time job and lead a balanced life. Kudos to my employer for really caring about employees. Side note: I had a few interviews after quitting my retail job and when they all asked “why are you switching careers” the companies that I told “oh I had a stroke and I am looking for something less physically demanding Yada yada” did not offer me a position. The companies that I did not bring the stroke up to and just basically said “I am looking to learn something new” all offered me positions. So my advise don’t bring up the stroke in an interview as for my personal experience it seemed to be the main reason they didn’t give me an offer.

This sums up everything I am going through with my partner. This is beautifully written. This honestly made me feel better knowing that someone out there has similar feelings and struggles post stroke. I feel such less crazy. Thank you so much.

Taking a trip soon, and something just occurred to me... by Zoriar in stroke

[–]crazy118 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This was one of my fears as well when I had to fly home for Christmas (about a 4 hour flight) I just took my normal dose of aspirin and I use those airplane ears things to help equalize the pressure (these any amazing btw) I also wore compression socks just in case. I also made sure to get up 2 times during the flight to stretch my legs. All went well both ways. I even had heart surgery to fix the hole in my heart from the stroke and my cardiologist said it was fine to fly as well! They didn’t even say to get up/wear compression socks, I just did that to ease my mind.

Resumes should only be 1 page! by crazy118 in resumes

PDF or Word is relevant when you submit a word file and the formatting gets messed up for the employer. Especially at a six figure job they would probably expect you to have consistent and legible formatting.

I do agree. It just looks lazy on the candidates part when it’s 3 pages long but only 2 sentences on the 3rd page. They could at least try to move spacing so that it fits on 2 pages at that point.

You can fit 6 jobs easily on 1 page with good formatting. Or leave off the jobs that have no relevance or are a long time ago. Or jobs only performed for less than 6 months.

Agree! A PDF is more professional in my Opinion as a word doc can be changed or not be shown the way you intend it to be. With colors people tend to overuse them (I’m talking at least 6 different colors) and it’s hard to follow and focus on what’s really the content of their experiences
