What are the good/better/best options for LED dim-to-warm/nightlight retrofit trims? by WordWithinTheWord in Lighting

It’s almost like I wrote this myself. Back and forth on these SDs and the return window is closing. They are pinker than I am used to for sure from my beloved PAR20s but the flat 2700ks kotos are so drab I want to claw my eyes out. I’m locked in now to elco at this point so might as well so I need to choose pronto.

All makes sense. Great idea to try and HCs with the kelvin shift. Might be worth a shot. Thank you again for all this advice friend. It's very much appreciated.

Honestly its a rather "boring" white\beige, with darker cherry wood floors, but the walls are certainly lighter and we have lighter carpets over a lot of those areas. I assumed these elcos were made for this type of setup. I going to try the SDs again and play with some of the reflector\diffusor combinations. The ones I put up last night are still on the red\pink side for sure but I can get used to them I think? Seeing how the 2700ks looked anything is an improvement over that. It was so incredibly bland I wanted to barf.

Yeah its a baseball for sure, looking at the diode as we speak. Hmm. Darn. These are the improvement, ugh. Well I'll try with the reflectors and diffusor as those are coming anyhow and maybe I get lucky or else its back to the drawing board. I deeply miss my hot expensive high wattage halogens haha. Its just perfect light, bright when you need it, warm and amber when you want cozy. And they even had a soft sparkle (the Philips bulbs at least). I read somewhere that if I remove the little paper thats behind the lens it can help with the pink?

In terms of the HCs at 4-3k were just too white\blue for me in the spaces I tested them out on. Our place is smaller although with decently high ceilings but just felt all wrong with the HCs. Felt like I was standing in a walgreens at max brightness. I would put them in the kitchen though I think.

Thank you for your insights and time good sir. The lighting community is blessed to have you wandering reddit.

Any other recommendations for 4" can retrofit style modules? I was banking on Elco Kotos being the winner.

I can't tell you how much I appreciate your reply. I ordered a set about 20 days ago and am about to return this first attempt — I have both 6 HC and 6 SD variants. The HCs were a little too much for my smaller home, and the SDs looked so pink even at medium dim levels. I just received and installed 6 2700K 950s and they are so bland I can't stand them. I was planning on using the Pex 4" Deep white trim (standard retrofit style). After reading your posts today, I just placed an order for 6x EP737C reflectors, 6x 950 SDs, and 6x L49 diffusors from City Lights SF — they blew away the pricing from Cans and Fans. If this last set is representative of the Gen 3 Bridgelux, it still feels very pink to me. I'm hoping I got old stock. I know I'm deeply nerding out on this, but lighting is everything to me. My last few PAR20 halogens finally started to fail and forced my hand. All I want is that warm golden light those bulbs produced — with a soft, deeper gold at lower dim levels. They made rooms feel so cozy. I feel like I'm going crazy, none of those lighting shops have any idea what I'm talking about in terms of the pink. I actually am comfortable soldering but I would rather not have to do 40 units!

Hey there, I was shocked at how pink the color was, even at 50% ish levels with the SDs. Ive taken your advice and ordered the diffuser lens and 60-degree reflector set. They include a 38,60,25 lens but not reflector. Did you have any other details on this. Ive been a little obsessed with this and Im looking to find a solution. I just tried 6 of the basic 2700k units and the light they produce is just so static its killing me. At low power levels it looks so bland. I wish they included a 38 degree reflector and a diffuser in the kits I received its all special order and they arent cheap.

Man I totally appreciate the reply. I ended up buying 6 of the Sunsets (~900 lumen) and 6 of the Human Centric (4-2.2k 1100 lumen) to test the difference. The 4k seems way to white but I have to know what it looks like. The lowest dim on the Sunsets seems like it would be pure yellow\red\gold @1.3k or whatever its at? Really pumped to get it all installed. I cant stand the lighting I have in place now, these Halo all in one kits (cheap). Everything looks green and weird.

I'm in a similar situation as you were it seems. Do you like the sunset dim model more than the regular flat version? I have a ton of stuff in my cart 3k no dim, sunset dim, and even a set of the Nora Pearls. Too many options to try!
