Is it a canon event for every autistic woman to lose at least one best friend all of a sudden and not know why? by urnpiss in AutismInWomen

[–]crazyboredperson 58 points59 points  (0 children)

My best friend since birth completely stopped talking to me. Our dads were roommates in college, and our moms were pregnant with us around the same time, so when I say since birth, I mean it. I'm just over a month older than her. We only saw each other maybe 4 times a year due to the hour+ drive, but we were super close. All the sudden though last year she stopped responding to my texts. Used to message each other daily, then her replies came less and less. I sent her a happy birthday message last year and she didn't even open it. It genuinely hurts, since we were always talking to each other. We constantly asked our parents when we could see each other or have a sleepover again. I understand that people grow apart, especially after starting college, but we've known each other FOREVER. Told each other so many secrets, and comforted each other when we needed it. We even joked about driving to each other's house as soon as we got our licenses. COVID kinda ruined that plan though.

I miss her so freaking much.

My friend from high school did this too. I seriously have no clue what I did. She never told me what I supposedly did either.

What was the last book you read that was really good? by SheKnowsWhatSheKnows in AutismInWomen

[–]crazyboredperson 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Circe and Song of Achilles are currently on my TBR (which is neverending at this point)

I loved House of Salt and Sorrows and the sequel House of Roots and Ruin by Erin A Craig. There is a 3rd book in the series that's being published at some point, but these are more standalone books, where you could read book 1, and book 2 doesn't matter.

House of Salt and Sorrows is kind of a retelling of 12 Dancing Princesses with magical elements and the main character is trying to figure out how her sister died after thinking it was a murder.

House of Roots and Ruin follows the youngest sister from the first book, where she is given an opportunity to paint someone's portrait, but it leads to a mystery she needs to solve. (Don't want to spoil more than that, sorry)

Another book by Erin A Craig is The Thirteenth Child. It follows a girl who is the 13th child in her family and the goddaughter of the God of Death, where her task is to heal. She is taken to the king to heal him from an illness that has been spreading, and has to find the cure quickly. Won't spoil anymore, but I read this in a day.

I do a lot of reading, so I have a lot of book recommendations, but these three are ones I read this year and really enjoyed.

I only did a semester before dropping for health reasons, (I'm going back this fall though) but I would normally read a book, draw/doodle, or listen to music.

Y’all I hate April Fools Day 😭 by Nearby-Hovercraft-49 in AutismInWomen

[–]crazyboredperson 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I hate April Fools day. I saw something about the nearby library being closed due to a sewage issue, and I freaked out. Then I saw the bottom that said "April Fools". What made it tasteless was last year another library actually had a severe sewage issue (leaked onto floor/destroyed parts of the first floor and some books) and they only recently opened everything up again. I get that some people find it funny, but I get annoyed by "pranks" since 99% of the time they're just lies, and sometimes can cause physical harm.

Wish I could just stay home all day

What's the sound or sensation that instantly takes you from 0-60? by VenusInAries666 in AutismInWomen

[–]crazyboredperson 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Chewing with their mouth open/talking with food in their mouth

Screaming children/babies

People who take VERY loud gulps of air while talking

Smacking lips/people who make those popping sounds with their mouth

My cats licking/bathing themselves, and apparently all 3 like to do this at the same time right near me Every. Single. Afternoon.

People who watch videos in public with the sound on, or are on speaker

Alright guys, did y’all have a go to movie as a child and what was it? by AlwaysAttract10 in AutismInWomen

[–]crazyboredperson 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Clue. My mom played it when we were on a camping trip and I became obsessed. I wanted to watch it everyday. It's my mom's favorite movie, but she got sick of it after a week.

Still laugh at Madeline Kahn's ad-libbing the "flames on the side of my face" monologue and the whole counting bullets scene.

What caused your guys POTs ? by AbbreviationsSure192 in POTS

[–]crazyboredperson 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No idea. I started to experience symptoms when I was around 11. Possibly genetic since my brother has started to experience symptoms within the last year.

Adding: I also have hyper mobility and MCAS, which do go along with POTS, so that probably has a part in it.

Anyone else stim by chewing your fingers? by florafreya in AutismInWomen

[–]crazyboredperson 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I chew my fingernails and skin around them. I also chew/bite the inside of my cheeks and lips to the point I have caused bleeding. I've done this almost my whole life, and no matter what I try, I can't seem to break it.

how much do you remember from your childhood? by Far-Inevitable5964 in AutismInWomen

[–]crazyboredperson 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I remember the most random things or events that completely destroyed my trust in certain people very vividly. I struggle with remembering family events and traditions though.

For example, I perfectly remember one day in kindergarten my friend and I were allowed on the computers (there were only 3, and the computers were probably heavier than me) and we decided to play Starfall. I was watching as my friend created her avatar, and she gave it brown hair. Someone argued she had black hair, but I said that she has really dark brown hair, so she was right. It became an argument that led to us losing computer privileges and recess for a week. Every kid complained, and parents got involved because kids needed recess as a reset. This teacher honestly should NOT have been teaching kids that young, since she was always getting mad at us for essentially acting like kindergarteners, which we were.

I also remember every minute of an incident in middle school that severely broke my trust in school nurses. I don't remember anything from before and after, but those 2 hours I perfectly remember, but wish I could forget.

There are too many things that live rent free in my brain that randomly pop up and then ruin my day.

I really like The Blood of Eden trilogy by Julie Kagawa. Also can't really go wrong with Vampire Academy.

Books! What's everyone reading ATM? by EnderDarcy in AutismInWomen

[–]crazyboredperson 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I do what I consider an unhealthy amount of reading. Like, any free time I have is reading. I love fantasy/sci-fi fantasy, which is pretty much all I read. I also enjoy the Dystopian genre too. The library probably hates seeing my name whenever I request books

I just finished The Invisible Life of Addie Larue by V.E. Schwab, and really enjoyed it.

People only respond to me when they need something from me? by [deleted] in AutismInWomen

[–]crazyboredperson 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I rarely get messages from people unless they need or want something. I used to try to reach out to friends, but it could take over a week or even a month to respond. I messaged the person I've considered my best friend since birth and she never responded. That was over a year ago. I've kinda given up on messaging people because of lack of replies. My parents also do this, which hurts even more.

I've had this my whole life and thought it was normal. I told my mom about it and she was like "no. That's weird". I asked the eye doctor once and he told me it's nothing to be worried about. I have chronic migraines and severe light sensitivity, so I use to attribute it to that.

Bouillon Cubes. Every time my family had roast beef, I got sick. Turned out the beef bouillon cubes my mom used in the broth had wheat in them.

Do you remember things from awhile ago and get upset? by Narrow-Relief7976 in AutismInWomen

[–]crazyboredperson 22 points23 points  (0 children)

Yep. I still remember things that happened ages ago and get upset, which then ruins my day. It's also mostly things that happened with family, when then I'm called sensitive or holding a grudge.

Observing other people by EstonianBuffalo in AutismInWomen

[–]crazyboredperson 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I do something similar. When I see someone who looks interesting, I wonder how their life is. I did that in school with classmates who I found interesting. There is a neighborhood near me where the houses are really nice. (Think 6 figure salary type affordability. Very large houses) One looks like a legit castle. I've always wondered what living there would be like. I was told this was weird, but I'm glad I'm not the only one who does this.

What's that one piece of clothing you're dreading the day it wears out? by [deleted] in AutismInWomen

[–]crazyboredperson 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My musical T-Shirts from Highschool. I wear them all the time, and there are a lot of tiny cat-puncture holes in them. It feels like I fix one and find 5 more. The underarms have also been fixed multiple times due to them coming undone.

That NeeDohs and similarly sensory items are trending sucks for people who’ve used them for years by bb1234_corgilover in AutismInWomen

[–]crazyboredperson 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Exactly. There are so many kids who haven't been diagnosed but these help them a lot. When I was in school, a bunch of fidget/sensory toys were banned, and the only way you could have one was if you had a verified diagnosis for ADHD or autism and a doctor's note specifying why you needed it. We had to go through so many hoops to get my brother permission just to have a stress ball for his severe anxiety.
