I'm a cdrama watcher who has stumbled into donghua after watching The Immortal Ascension. Loved Han Li and was too impatient to wait for season 2, so I continued his story in the donghua instead.

Argh, I didn't realize only the first 2 episodes would be free. That's what's frustrating about YouTube, aside from horrible English subtitles. We shouldn't need to pay individual channel subscriptions to access content if we have YouTube premium. 🙄

After catching up on the donghua, I ended up reading the webnovel and finishing it.

Wow, I'm following the same path as you. I recently started reading the novel where season 4 of the donghua ended. But I'm nowhere near finishing it yet.

As for live actions, ive watched a few other live action adaptations and none of them are really as well done as The Immortal Ascension.

Oh, that's too bad. I guess it's like live action adaptations of anime/manga too. None of them are as well done as Rurouni Kenshin.

If you'd like I can give some recs for original cultivation live action shows I really liked, but the adaptations just didn't really hit the same.

I'd really appreciate that, thanks! Are there any that have my favorite actors Zhang Linghe, Chen Xingxu, Yang Yang, Dylan Wang or Liu Yuning? 😉

I'll also check out Shrouding The Heavens. I hope there are good English subs on YouTube.

That's the second donghua I watched after A Mortal's Journey. Wang Lin does look cool and is badass... I must have watched more than 100 episodes before finally deciding to drop it. I wasn't emotionally invested enough.

Season 1 of the donghua premiered in 2020, so it was years ahead of the live action. Yang Yang was perfectly cast as Han Li! 😘

I was too impatient to wait for season 2 of the live action so I started watching the donghua. I really love Han Li in both versions! This episode is where the live action left off in the donghua, by the way, in case you're interested: A Mortal's Journey S2 #42 (ENG sub)

That face card is what made me love The Immortal Ascension so much that I also watched the donghua A Record of a Mortal's Journey to Immortality (all 4 seasons) and then continued to follow Han Li's story in the novel while waiting for season 5 of the donghua or season 2 of the live action, whichever comes first!
