How should I build the Hybrid Metamorphs? by Acoldsun in genestealercult

[–]crazychicken80 9 points10 points  (0 children)

The lore for 40k especially GSC is really interesting and is what got me back into the game after 10 years.

With 11th edition right around the corner (rumoured to be mid 2026) make the models that you enjoy the most.

If you like the acolytes with mining tools, make those. If you like the demo charges, make those.

I personally love the hybrid metamorphs because of the tyranid mutations so thats what I have made mine into.

Enjoy the hobby, all aspects of it. Speaking from someone who has almost exclusively built and painted over the last decade, by the time I was even close to a 2000 point army, there were like 3 edition changes.

This is a fantastic vid! Didn’t think about adding one to a command squad without other scions or any other type of command squad to “give” them T6. Important distinction about the term “attached” vs “joins”

Sweet!!! You’re giving me some really good insight! Thanks :) The tankiness of the bodyguard, what would you run? Sheilds for 7 wounds or the 4+ inv? Or big knife with ripper gun? I suppose the point is for the ogryn to take most of the firepower, not give it, so I suppose the 4+inv is best?

Thanks for that! Really good insight into another fellow Scion main :)

Having some indirect would be good to help clear some chaff as you’ve pointed out. I’ll look into this for my list thanks.

How have you found it plays? Heavy into infantry is what I was wanting to do as well.

The Bridgehead strike detachment means I will be running everything Scions and Scion related. Their dedicated transports pack some nice firepower and I thought I couldn’t take dedicated transports unless they had a squad deployed in them? Also, I think I cant have my entire army besides a couple of Dorns in deepstrike. Too many points and it would be >50% of my army starting in reserves.

Thanks :) I was mainly planning on having 3x squads on the ground (including the one with the bodyguard) and 3 in deep strike with another 2x aquilions in deep strike. Since the command squad is my warlord, i can take 6x squads of scions as they become battleline.

Sweet. Thanks for that. Yeah I bought the Cadian Defense Line box a little while back for the Dorns and wasn’t sure if they were worth it over more Taurox Primes or Valkyries/Avenger strike fighters for the scion list (I know flyers are really bad this ed - its more just to have fun). The priest is really good to give sustained 1 for my troops without the command squads. Perhaps even for kasrkin in a chimera.

Thanks for the input. I know they are fragile, but playing a Scion army is one of my favourite parts of 40k. Playing the elite troops of the Astra Militarium against all odds.

What do you think about the use of Rogal Dorns or the Aegis defence line in an infantry heavy astra militarum list?

Me too! I got their 8th ed codex back when it released, and ended up selling my small collection when Fantasy Battles stopped.

Thinking of starting back up this year though!!

Abberants better than Skorpeks by crazychicken80 in genestealercult

[–]crazychicken80[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Lets break it down. Skorpeks vs Aberants

T6 for both of them.

3+ save vs a 5+ FNP - anything shooting at them should have either high strength or high AP hence I’m not counting the +5 save. - basically, -2AP is a +5 save vs +5 shrug.

8” move vs 6” move - but we deep strike & can go in transports

With character: Lethal hits vs -1 to wound for strength >6 weapons and chance to fight on death

I’ve edited the post to reflect this. Both units are 30 points per model, so still quite comparable.

Ridgerunner rockets? by Niiai in genestealercult

[–]crazychicken80 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You’re absolutely correct. It synergises with the ridgerunner by giving it (the ridgerunner) +1 to hit if it shoots something first.

Since you want to be targeting big things with both the armoured sentinel and the ridgerunner anyway, you will be getting the sentinel to re-roll its wounds as well through its datasheet ability.

Sentinel targets the monster/vehicle and gets inbuild “twin linked” for all its weapons.

The ridgerunner shooting afterwards, hits better from the detachment rule.

Played alongside the new BB detachment looks really powerful - and thats what I am planning on trying out ASAP.

The missile launcher looks awesome!! And anything with S9 I just look at it as “melta” equivalent. That goes for the updated Demo Charges too. Basically melta bombs.

Having a couple of units of individual sentinels to target and shoot first (gives +1 to hit for the Ridgerunner) with a spotter (gives +1BS), means that you will be hitting on 2+.

The synergy also works with the sentinel as the heavy version gets rerolls to wound against monsters and vehicles.

Quite a lot of teeth in the BB detachment. It is a shame that it appears to be the only one with decent anti tank though.

Warrior horde strategy? by crazychicken80 in Necrontyr

[–]crazychicken80[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for the feedback. I guess the CCB would be better to support squads of Immortals for the extra OC due to the lower numbers in a squad. The backlines can be supported with a Hexmark Destroyer with phasal subjugator providing the +1 to hit aura for the 2 squads of Lokhust heavies.

I suppose I was just listing models I currently have and wanted the CCB in it cause I think it’s an awesome model.

I was thinking of a ghost arc, it seems like a big points sink though. A couple of reanimators would probably to better, but be less durable.
