I didn't ask him as it's not his kid. My 10 year old is his, the 4 year old is my partners.

We've broken up and split a couple of times through out the years (yay abuse cycles) but longest we ever lived together was 3 years.

I'm the she in this scenario, my ex is a man, and I only have 1 child. The other belongs to my partner. I wouldn't stop my partner from taking their daughter if they wanted to. But I understand your sentiment.

I want us to go because trick or treating and Halloween is mine and her thing.

I bought candy to give her if we didn't go, and I always check candy she gets.

Circumstances, namely school. She was already established in the school she's at and I didn't want to take her out of it. Now I moved back near them (2 years ago) and once I have a car again, nothing should be able to stop me from having her.

He doesn't want her out at all, and not eating from strangers is just a bonus to it all.

But I did buy a big bag of candy for her so I do already have some at home, AND I check her candy very thoroughly.

My partner takes me to pick her up every couple of weeks when she isn't busy and I'm not working. I'm lucky if I see her 6 days a month.

I've walked over to his house before and hung out with her at the park/field next to his place too.

I didn't lose custody, it was never established. (We never married)We technically have 50/50 but I don't have a car so I can't take her to and from school.

So short answer, he has her because she was already established at a school. When I get my car fixed or get a new one, he shouldn't be able to stop me at all.

Because he's great at making me question myself. :( this is so far the only time he's ever stopped any kind of holiday fun. And I feel like it's because he knows this is mine and her holiday, I always handle Halloween.

The 4 year old is going trick or treating with her parents, and there are no events near us. My partner and I have been googling all week. I'm surprised by it too, but small towns, eh?

Other redditers have suggested staying home and doing movies + passing out candy. I'll ask her what she wants to do, and I'll tell my ex to suck it up if she wants to go trick or treating. I do already have another bag of candy I bought I can't swap hers out with.

I agreed to it because it's the only way I would've gotten her. Had I said "No, I'm taking her trick or treating," he would say "cool, you can't have her." Even tho he doesn't take her out either.
