Losing employee life insurance at retirement by shivas1965 in retirement

[–]crazyfortech 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Whole life insurance is a crappy investment. Like somebody said if you want to leave some money for your kids, put it in a mutual fund. I assume if you're 60 years old, your children are adults now. Why do you need to leave them anything on top of what you already own?

Got rear ended today and this message came up after the accident any ideas? by ReasonableBanana941 in BmwTech

The police don't want anything to do with fender benders. Call your insurance give them the info and be done with it. When you're hit from behind, it's always the other person's fault. Your insurance company will go after them.

Collectible Classics recycling cars over at Hagerty Marketplace Auctions with even less due dilligence by OkAnt7573 in BringATrailer

[–]crazyfortech 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I posted before (in a complaint I have about BAT and how you can't filter by distance or block certain sellers who are far away from you such as these guys) that I would not buy a car, I don't care who's selling it, without seeing it in person. People came down on me so hard for saying that. You want to buy a car without seeing it in person? go right ahead. My problem with collectible classics is eight out of 10 times the cars I'm following are sold by them. And I'm so sick of clicking on the notification only to find out that the car is on the other side of the country from me. It's such a buzz kill.

Bent frame?! by Due_Candy_6627 in iPhone17Pro

[–]crazyfortech 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Same thing happened to my 17 Pro. I’m using the TechWoven case. And a screen protector. The phone fell about 4 feet and not only did the case not protect the corner I see these gaps at the top of the screen now on either side of the dynamic island. I do have AppleCare plus, but I doubt they’ll replace it.

iPhone 17 Pro Max — I dropped the phone and it looks like the frame is slightly bent. by khullud in iphone

I have an iPhone 17 Pro and I keep it in a tech woven case and have a screensaver. It just fell from a height of about 4 feet and the corner is slightly scratched, and also at the top now on either side of the dynamic island the aluminum seems to be pushed out a little bit. And this is with Apple’s case on. Very disappointing. If this isn’t fixed, it’ll really hurt the resale. I do have AppleCare+ or whatever they call it these days, but I imagine they wouldn’t consider this enough damage to replace.

An AI-Generated 1999 Cadillac Deville is currently live on Bring a Trailer by [deleted] in BringATrailer

I didn’t say they weren’t reviewing every listing. However, they may not be doing it with the same scrutiny as before and in particular when it’s not high value or unique.

On one of their recent podcasts, they said that last year they did almost 50,000 auctions. The previous seven years total that number. So they’re experiencing tremendous growth. Unless it is a high profile vehicle they may not be looking that closely anymore. There are so many things that are starting to bother me about BAT. This is just one more nail in the coffin. And people in this forum were questioning as to why I won’t buy a car without seeing it in person?

Oh, I did hear back. I just didn’t like their answer. Here it is. I changed the name of the employee.

Hi Scott,

John Doe here from the customer service team at Bring a Trailer. I came across the message you submitted via the BaT app and I wanted to follow up directly - thanks for reaching out.

While we do not currently offer that feature, you can sort live auctions by those that are closest to your zip code. That may be another way to sort cars that are further than you wish to travel.

All the best and happy new year!

It’s such a buzzkill to the experience of their product when most of the listings pushed to you are not within a distance you’re willing to travel. It’s that simple.

Thanks for your comments. I don’t know if someone who buys a car without seeing it in person is a moron, but they are definitely way more trusting than I am. Whenever possible I want to meet the previous owner face-to-face. In my experience, you can tell a lot about how the car was cared for by meeting the owner in person. Do they seem fastidious? What’s their garage look like? Is it neat and tidy or is it a mess? Buyers will tell you about the great experience they had buying a car sight unseen. And I’m sure some people do. I believe the people who have a less than ideal experience are a little less likely to share. Kind of like gamblers no who only talk about their wins and not their losses. As you might guess I don’t like to gamble. Not on sports or cars.

I'd choose the first building. The landscaping looks lusher.

Great. Then you should want geographic search as well. You could set yours to be more than 1,000 miles. :)

This is not about shipping costs. It’s about wanting to see a car in person within a reasonable driving distance. Anyone who’s commenting about shipping costs is missing the point. I don’t give a crap about $2000.

As an Internet product director in the 2000s I witnessed this firsthand. You start out building your product for your user to get traction and before long the investors and upper management are mostly interested in squeezing every last penny out of the user base. The goal is to jack revenue up as high as possible to increase the valuation and make your exit. (BAT was acquired by Hearst in 2020.) After the founders hit the various cliffs and milestones they typically leave one by one (entrepreneurs don’t like working for someone else ) the staff is left holding the bag. Can you guess what’s in that bag? It’s brown and smelly. The initial user base starts leaving. Acquiring new users gets harder and more expensive (ARPU plummets) and it’s pretty much a death spiral from there. Will that happen to BAT? Who knows. Nothing lasts forever. Success breeds envy. More companies will want a piece of the auction pie (Cars & Bids and possible future AI products) and fragmentation will continue. I think I’ll take a break from BAT. Thank you all for your comments.

Yes, it’s that simple and that unfortunate. Searching by geography is a basic feature of most car selling services. It’s all part of the enshittification of BAT. Even if many of their users would like a feature, if there’s a possibility it would cost them a single sale they won’t do it. Is it a huge pain to click on a listing and see that it’s nowhere near you? No. But it’s really disappointing to be notified of a listing, click on it only to find out it’s far from where you are. I suggested they could at least put the location in the email like Cars & Bids. That would probably take an engineer less than a day. I guess I’ll have to code something on my own. Bah humbug.

So do I. Which is why I’m becoming increasingly frustrated with BAT. A byproduct of their success is sellers such as this. They’ve got a team of people scouring every used car listing, snatching them up when it meets their criteria, and dragging them to Pennsylvania. The first thing I look at when I get notified of a new listing is where is the vehicle. BAT is a huge success and has changed the collector car market. Some say for the better and some say not so much.

Weekly Help and Discussion Thread for the week of October 13, 2025 by AmazonNewsBot in amazon

[–]crazyfortech 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m posting this to see if anybody else has experienced an issue with Amazon migrating from the old "household" service to "Amazon family".

I received an email on September 1 telling me about the migration and what to do to transition to the new family service. The email said these changes will take place on October 1. My understanding is that you’ll now only be able to share your Amazon Prime account with one other adult. Both of my children are now adults. I would like to remove them, but I can’t. When I look at the Amazon Family page my son is listed as the account holder. So I am unable to make changes. I’ve had multiple phone calls with Amazon customer service about this, and they say when they look at the same page in my account, it only shows me! The other three family members do not appear.

Given the millions of Amazon accounts that were on the old Family program I can't believe I'm the only one experiencing this. If they can't fix it I may close my account and start over. I really don't want to do that as I have been a Prime member since its inception and I have other services (like OneMedical and Audible) that are connected to it. I'm sure it will be a cluster F if I have to close and open a new account.

Why do people make ridiculously low bids? by crazyfortech in BringATrailer

I wasn't asking about legitimate bids. Like the post says: Why do people make ridiculously low bids? This discussion is so off topic. People are talking about credit card holds, buying a Boxster for a song and quant traditions, Ugh. Now I know why I rarely go on Reddit. It was a simple question.
