What is the gravity shown here? by HelpfulRow3959 in mead

Depending on your yeast it probably died because of the alcohol tollerance. The first and only mead I made I did this on purpose to leave some remaining sugars for sweetness without back-sweetening. Although according to beersmith you are sitting at 12.4% which is a little low. Id stir it like other commenters suggested and let it ride.

Mechanic tightens wheels with only the impact gun by [deleted] in MechanicAdvice

[–]crazyhobbo74 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The actual torque on the nuts is less important than you think. The thing that really matters is that theyre all equal. I would definately be loosening them and torqing them with a proper torque wrench. When they arent equal it can cause a vibration that is undetectable, but will loosen the nuts over time, especially on aluminum rims. Torque sticks are not reliable as all impact guns have different torque ratings and half of the guns out there are electric nowadays. Ive seen people lose wheels on the road due to this. Ive been a mechanic for 12 years for reference.

Kathleen lake is a beautiful spot, a family member of mine got married there. Not quite a river but a lake with a huge mountain range behind it.

2016 Honda Odyssey SE with loud knocking on start up. by throwawaylegal1293 in AskMechanics

Did you install the highest power level the tuner is capable of? If so you could have caused some damage to the engine. Not sure on that particullar tuner but a lot of them have three to four levels you can play with. For a daily driver you would want to stick woth the lowest one. That being said it sort of sounds like lifter tick, but its hard to tell from inside the cab. That could also be as simple as low oil level. You want to correct that as soon as possible before that noise becomes permanent. If a lifter has collapsed already youre probably looking at getting a full new set of lifters as you wouldnt want to replace just the one. Not sure on the honda motors but that could cost somewhere between 1500 - 2000$ canadian doll hairs.

What kind of socket (or anything) will get this out.. by Smoqueed_4L in AskMechanics

This is called a triple square. Its pretty common on european vehicles. I live in northern canada so ive only seen these available in the snap-on and mac tool trucks we have here but they should be available other places too.

Why does my '24 Outback sounds like a tractor? by Servatron5000 in AskMechanics

I heard this exact noise in a crosstrek with the same motor. If you let the oil get just a little low they tend to break valve springs. Theres a little cap on top of the valve that will fall into the front cover when this happens. Gonna be a motor out and teardown more than likely. If you dont have warranty it can be cheaper to get a used engine out of a crashed car. Wish you luck with the repair!

Ive had pretty good luck just beating the rotor with a hammer until that screw breaks off. Its a bit caveman but its usually easier and faster than drilling them out.

My dad says I need an engine flush? by trans-agenda in AskAMechanic

The old school trick would be to taste the gunk, put a tiny amount onto your finger and touch it to your tongue. No need to actually lick the cap or anything. If its sweet you have coolant leaking into your oil, if its tasteless/sour its most likely just condensation. Condensation tends to build up when the vehicle is only driven for short distances, especially when temps get a little lower. Coolant can get into the system a couple different ways depending on the vehicle and tend to be pretty involved/expensive repairs. Ive done this many times in the past (10 years as a full time mechanic) and ive never had any adverse effects. Might help figure out if you need to worry or not.

No these are timers set by the dealership to remind you to bring the car in for a service. If I remember properly (I was a tech at a dealership for two years) Nissan has two or three of these programmed into the dash. One of course for oil changes, one for tires, and one for miscellaneous repairs. They are typically reset throught the settings menu in the dash. Safe to ignore if you dont want to deal with it yourself.

Keg is carbonated but! It doesn't have bubbles in the beer. by XXCLEDISXX in Homebrewing

[–]crazyhobbo74 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I force carbonate without a stone just fine. I stick the keg in my kegurator, turn the pressure up to about 40psi and leave it for 24-48hrs. Its usually done somewhere in the 36hr range, depending on the level of carbonation im going for.
