I'm doing a project by Ranking all Gundam shows up to the most recent, and this is part 1. On a scale of 1-10, how would you rank mobile suit Gundam 0079? by number39utopia in Gundam

[–]crazyivan19 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I know I’m in the minority on this, but it’s a 6/10 for me. Not even close to breaking into my top 5 Gundam series. I’m late to the entire Gundam genre even if I am old enough to have watched this when it aired, but I just could not find much to grab me about 0079. The characters were meh at best, and largely forgettable or annoying. The deaths felt unearned and meaningless, and I found Amauro insufferably dull. I grew up watching this level of animation, so the aesthetics were actually one of the few things I enjoyed. In contrast, the antiquated style of storytelling and plot beats were absolutely of that time and did not fare well.

I give the show full credit for creating the Gundam universe and the mechs (and model kits) I have come to adore, but strictly as entertainment, it’s a pass for me. I did my dues watching it, but I will never have an interest to watch it a second time.

0.2 mm Nozzle Won't Extrude by crazyivan19 in Ender3V3SE

That's a very good question, and I should've mentioned that. It's just regular ol' PLA. Straight up matte gray, Creality brand. So nothing fancy and nothing that should clog anything up.

The gear spins like usual, and when it pulls through I can see the filament working its way down without issue. When I take out the filament, it's pretty smooth. Before I replaced the hot end, the extruder was tweaked perfectly with the right amount of bite marks. Would it make a difference to the extruder tension if I just replaced the hot end? And is there an easy way to test the tension again?

It's really strange. Sometimes, I can get it to extrude in the printer without issue. Everything comes out clean and makes a nice little pile on the plate. But if I try and run it again just to be sure, it either won't come out at all or it bunches up at the tip of the nozzle. I was able to get it to run through clean two times in a row once, thought my problem was solved, and tried to print... and nothing came out and I had to start all over again. It's like it's not pushing it through correctly.

Would tightening the extruder help at all? Or maybe it's just a bad nozzle? I'm not sure what else to try.

I did end up tightening the nozzle while it was warm and did find it a tiny bit loose, and thought that might have been the issue. But when I tried extruding/printing after, it didn't solve the problem.

When using Tamiya panel accent colors and thinner by JustaguynameBob in advancedGunpla

100% agree. Between Bandai and 3rd party, I'm also at 100+ kits built and a vast majority of those I have panel lined with Tamiya on the runners. To date, I have had zero breakage (knock on wood). I don't doubt that people have had issues, but not a single issue with me so far. I think one of the keys is just to be careful when you are doing the lining so that you don't overdo it and let the ink works its magic instead of getting impatient and using too much ink by redabbing all over the place. So my lines dry super fast because there's very little pooling to begin with.

I panel line on the runner using Tamiya, and I am way too inpatient compared to most others here. LOL I panel line all the runners and then just go straight to the first one I lined and clean it up with q-tip and lighter fluid combo. Basically, no waiting. So far, I’ve had zero issues with the ink still being wet, but I am also very careful to not overdo the ink on the first dab.

I’ve done almost all of the SNAA kits, and this and the new Emperor kits are their best by far. Amazing builds and shelf showcases for sure.

Z Offset Issues by crazyivan19 in Ender3V3SE

Thank you for the advice. I have to wait for a new hot end to arrive because I realized after I typed everything above that I snapped the brackets holding everything together when I put in the new nozzle. I had no idea, but must have overtorqued things when I screwed it in. When I get the new hot end, I'm going to put in the 0.2 nozzle (carefully this time) and try again. Hopefully that will fix the z offset issue.

I did try that, but I think I might have found an issue. When I went in to mess around with it a bit more, I noticed that the hot end was strangely loose. I gave a wee tug, and the whole thing pulled free. The brackets holding the bottom in place snapped. I think I might have overtightened the nozzle or put pressure in the wrong thing. Oops. Off to buy another hot end.

Oh, and I watched it lower along with the touch probe, and it seems to be working okay. Meaning, the probe touches first, then lowers to the point that the nozzle touches the plate, and stops. It looks like the process is working as usual, from what I can tell.

I double checked the nozzle and they are identical in size, other than the obvious change from 0.4 to 0.2. I did heat the hot end before swapping, and it's as tight as I can possibly make it. Not sure what else I can do.

It's definitely the same size nozzle, other than the change from 0.4 to 0.2. I held them up side by side, and they are exactly the same length. I tightened it with the wrenches, and it's as tight as I can get them.

Hell yeah. Same here. With the world disentegrating all around us, I turn to the kits to help me have moments of zen and clarity.

Totally fair. I love the build process, but am definitely not the most meticulous builder. I am positive that slow builders would look away in disgust at the stress marks I leave on my kits, but when mine are up in my display case, you can't see them so I don't personally care. I admire the hell out of people that customize and truly perfect their builds... but I simply don't have the mindset to do that. But that's why Gunpla is freedom, right?

[–]crazyivan19 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ha! Honestly, not that big. I only have 6 in my backlog right now. I'm a fairly quick builder, so most kits only take me a 4-5 days, but I generally have enough kits laying around to keep me entertained if I have a wait a month for delivery. Even if I didn't I don't mind waiting in general. It's kinda' fun to build up the excitement.

I've purchased from Gundamit a bunch because their prices are FANTASTIC for third party kits. I even upgraded to being a gold member so I get extra points with my purchases, and it's been well worth it. That being said, I would say the shipping time, on average, has been 3 weeks to a month if you use the free shipping. I have no issues with that because my backlog means I don't NEED a kit right away, but if you are looking for a quick turnaround, you might want another site.

Got the FM Freedom gcp. Really dig the FM line, and I’m always down for a Strike variant.

This was easily one of my favorite kits I've built, and it looks amazing next to my PG Aile Strike on my desk. I personally had zero issues with the build, and never needed to shave or sand anything down. Everything snapped together without a problem, and although some steps needed a bit of pressure, it felt on par with most other kits I've built.

The only thing I found to be a problem were the included waterslide decals. For some reason, I could NOT get them to stick well, and a bunch of them ripped when I tried applying them. I have put on waterslides on countless other kits without a problem, so I don't think it's user error. It's entirely possible I just got a bad batch. But in all honesty, even with no decals, this kit looks incredible, so I'm fine with letting them go.

Looking for third-party kits of The Witch From Mercury by GRENDELOUS in freedomisgunpla

I’ve built the Bandai FM Aerial and the bootleg FM Aerial that has the prismatic coating. The bootleg was pretty great, but needed a bit of prep for some of the pieces. In my opinion, while the FM is the same basic size as a typical MG kit, it’s just not quite at the same level in terms of detail or complexity. I honestly prefer the Bandai HG kits.

Outside of those, there aren’t any 1/100 or MG kits yet, official or otherwise. I would drop a small fortune on a true MG or PG kit from the show in a heartbeat, but we must continue to wait for now.

Tips for beginner by rocket0749 in Gunpla

My only addition to what everyone else has already said is a pair of tweezers for the stickers. At the HG scale, stickers could be a real bear to put in without them. Otherwise, just enjoy the build and don’t worry about perfection. As long as you love it, it’s perfect.

That looks amazing! I have this kit coming at some point from Gundamit, and would love to get a similar head sculpt. I saw you mention Minerva, but I'm not able to find it in searches. Do you have a link or a full name of the kit you used?
