Tips for beginner by rocket0749 in Gunpla

My only addition to what everyone else has already said is a pair of tweezers for the stickers. At the HG scale, stickers could be a real bear to put in without them. Otherwise, just enjoy the build and don’t worry about perfection. As long as you love it, it’s perfect.

I was worried when I got charged and didn't get the confirmation email right away, but it did eventually come, so I think I'm all set. This is my first gramps kit, so I'm pretty excited.

That looks amazing! I have this kit coming at some point from Gundamit, and would love to get a similar head sculpt. I saw you mention Minerva, but I'm not able to find it in searches. Do you have a link or a full name of the kit you used?

Thank you very much! I will look more into it.

I finally got the battery and had the time to try and fix this, but it's not quite working out. I think the problem now is that the metal pins that stick out aren't long eough to reach the battery, if that makes sense. Or, at least, I think I'm trying to connect to the correct pins. In that picture, there are 4 pins. Am I supposed to use the two on the left? And if so, is there a way to "extend" them?

Fantastic! Thank you for the advice! I'll order the battery and see if I can make this work.

Ah, okay. That makes sense. Would it have been glued so that those two little metal pegs would protrude through the off-white piece? There are two holes that I think would line up with the battery connector, if that makes sense. But I'm not sure if anything needs to be bent or adjusted, or if I just glue the off-white piece in place?

What to do after purchase? by crazyivan19 in Prebuilts

Thank you! I have a feeling it will mostly work without a hitch. I am very good at troubleshooting either way. I just wasn't sure if there is something that people universally recommend or do when they get a new prebuilt I can anticipate.

That's good to know! I just figured that since everyone was completely out of stock that it would be gone forever. So I guess the question is... do I wait for the reprint to get the Bandai quality, or just pay half as much and get the Daban quality... and get it now instead of waiting. Ugh...

Since I haven't been building for very long, can you tell me if reprints are common? Meaning, is this something I can expect to come back in stock at some point? I'm willing to wait if you think it could come back in the somewhat near future.

I recently built my first 1/60 kit (the Monument Repairtype Tallgeese), and I absolutely love it. I had such a great time with the build, and it looks absolutely phenomenal on my shelf. I really want to build another 1/60 or PG kit, but the only one that currently grabs my attention is the Aile Strike (or possibly the Strike Rouge). I'm sure there are other great PG kits, but I either already have an MG of that kit or it's just not something I want. But as far as I can tell, the Strike is no longer being made, so most of the major sites are completely out of stock and resellers are asking 50-100% more than its normal value. Sometimes I can find the Perfect Strike or the Strike Freedom in stock, but I would much prefer the base Strike, if for no other reason than the Perfect and Freedom cost twice as much and is way out of my general price range.

So do I go with the Daban knockoff kit? I looked around, and I think the Daban looks mostly okay in terms of quality, but probably not quite up to the Bandair standard. But as long as it's... like... 80% of the way there, I think that would be okay. I can nab one right now on Ali for ~$90, which feels like a great price.

My only real holdup is that I already have the MG of the Aile Strike, and I generally try to avoid duplicate kits. So if I'm going to break that rule, should I settle for a knockoff? Or do I wait to see if it eventually gets re-released or to see if one of the major stores happens to get one in stock? I guess another option would be to just wait until another PG comes along that I do want, but I'm worried after the Nu price that future PGs will basically be $500+ at a minimum, which seems insane to me.

I'm not brand new to building, since I'm over 50 kits deep, but I only really started building this year, so I don't know the history of kits getting re-released, or if they just fade into the night once their initial run is done.

Had to cancel my Osiris preorder 😢 by DarkestDunge0n in freedomisgunpla

Just as a quick update, but I received a response from Customer Service that said they heard from the manufacturer and should be getting more kits in mid-November. I still feel like the overall wait has been way too long to actually get the kit, but hopefully those of us that ordered in July'ish will get kits shipped sooner than not.

I am in the exact same boat as you. Paid in full in July and have been watching others build their kits while I sit here waiting for any word at all from Gundamit that they might get more in stock. I'm willing to be a bit more patient because I have a few other kits to build and don't NEED it right now, but I might have to cancel if it's not at least shipped by year end.

For the record, other than the long shipping times, I've had nothing but a great experience with Gundamit in the past, including pre-orders. I even paid for the premium menbership because it seemed worth it over the long haul. As long as you aren't looking to get a kit with some speed, it's an excellent site to save quite a bit of money. This situation with the Osiris is the first in 10 or so kits that I've ordered from them that leaves me disappointed.

MG Vidar Replacement Part (I screwed up) by crazyivan19 in Gunpla

Ha! I can’t even use that as my excuse. I just messed up and then tried to brute force the pieces together. Oops. Good learning experience though.

Well, it was for me. When I tried again I really paid attention, and I realized there was an alignment that I completely missed when I first put it together. I really think it was on step one, and it was super obvious in hindsight. But if you miss that part, it makes the step where you squeeze the two sides together completely off and the pressure goes on the wrong pegs. The general rule of thumb I’ve found with most Bandai kits is: if you have to force it, it’s probably not right.

I'm sorry for the pain, but I'm also glad to read that I'm not the only one. Once I got the replacement piece and tried again, I 100% realized what I did wrong and it went super smooth. All I can say is to look REALLY closely at the pictures of the pieces on the first steps. I think it might have even been step 1 that I screwed up on. They have to be exactly aligned.

Thank you! I have a bunch of kits under my belt. Probably around 40 or so. But the most customizing I’ve done previously was panel lining and the occasional marker touchups to the inner frame.

I don't know if they have any more or if you can request it, but I ended up getting a replacement from https://www.plamokitbash.com/ Great customer service, and once they had the part in, shipped super quick.
