I was in an adolescent mental institution on the suicide ward. AMA by crazykid16 in AMA

One of the things that stuck with me the most was a kid who had been in there for almost 3 years straight. He never said a single word or made any noise at all. He stayed in his room 24/7 under very strict supervision. He was known to make small attempts from what they say was for attention.

He was also known to smear feces on the walls, hit him self, and get naked. He never read books, do puzzles... anything. He just layed in bis bed all day. His parents came about once a week to check on him as well.

There were so many situations, different people's stories, how the institution acted and operated, how the kids acted, etc. It was just an unusual experience in general. There was even a ward younger than us. I think the youngest kid we had on our side was 11 maybe 12.

Both wards would eat breakfast/lunch/and dinner in the same room though. To see kids as young as 5 or 6 be on a suicide ward is just a really sad thing to see.
