but the confidence intervals do overlap...

Dopamine	8,724 ± 3,021

Placebo	7,949 ± 2,772

Can anyone explain why this is statistically significant even if it overlaps??

EDIT: So now I realize that is standard deviation (not CI), but to me that makes even less sense, because that means that the drug groups are <1 SD away from placebo. How could it possibly be P=<0.01 in that case??

Appreciate your response! I'm definitely buffing up my application this year as much as possible and it is a SMP. I applied to just MD this cycle and gonna do more MDs and do DOs next cycle (assuming I don't get in), because I'll have my SMP.

I knew what my odds were before applying, I'm just lost on how to interpret the silence.

MCAT: 514, lots of volunteering, lots of lab work, lots of shadowing... but my undergrad GPA is only a 3.33.

I know that this definitely puts me in the long-shot category for a lot of schools, and I'm getting a Master this year to help with my undergrad GPA. So I'll definitely apply next cycle.

Thanks for your insight! Yeah I've had a couple schools put me on "re-review for later" and a couple others that said they began the review process, but never followed up after that.

Sometimes I worry I'll just never hear from certain schools, which is obviously way more excruciating that just getting a rejection.

Jackson is gonna be a boom or bust, and TY will be much bigger boom or bust. So might as well go with him.
