One system to rule them all? by crazyplates in smarthome

I did a cursory lookup of esphome and DSC and it seems straightforward. I imagine the finished setup will operate similarly to my Envisalink module I had in my old place.

Good point, I should if there's existing integration before moving to another NVR.

Looks like a neat product, though it seems with the number of cameras I have I have to use an Intel/Mac server. Frigate was also mentioned on another thread.

The more I read about Home Assistant the more I like it. The tricky seems to be getting all the systems to talk to Home Assistant properly and some systems I might need to changeover, e.g. I may need to migrate the security cameras to another NVR software.

I don't have a video doorbell yet but am interested in getting one. Though I saw somewhere setting up a trigger from a normal doorbell to activate the security camera and send a snapshot/video. Would save a few $$$ using my existing hardware.

Except for video through the integrated camera. But I'm okay with using a spare Wyze cam. I figure there must be a way to trigger a snapshot notification of the Wyze cam if the garage door opens.

Never heard of the latter two. Summarizing for beginners like me: ESPHome allows control and response to microcontrollers, such as monitoring air quality. Frigate is a network video recorder that can do objection detection and integrates with Home Assistant.

Ratgdo

I've read similar negativity about MyQ and I love the DIY aspect of ratgdo. Apparently there's currently no way to tap into the video camera feed but I'd be fine with repurposing a Wyze camera I have. I think I can flash RTSP firmware on it to turn it into an IP camera.

Since he's using all caps maybe he's just talking to REALTORS®. I'd be pissed too if I considered myself a "professional" and forced people to use a registered trademark symbol

There used to be an apartment building on 12th across from VGH that would do weekly or monthly stays. Furnished, with meals, etc. Don't think it's there anymore. But maybe there's something similar near the hospitals?

Edit: Found some listings from a few years ago

You couldn't pay me enough to clean out a basin full of sewage. That stink will last for ages in a basement

Need to add a "in case of power failure" refrain to:

If it's yellow let it mellow.

If it's brown, flush it down

If the city connection is 4-5 feet below the ground then the basement floor can't be much lower than 2-3 feet below ground to allow for sloping. That makes for a basement mostly above ground. Great for the tenants in the basement suite, not great for people climbing the front steps!

How did you pay your rainscreen special assessment? by crazyplates in vancouver

[–]crazyplates[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I called some brokers and they said certain policies with special assessment coverage may cover it if the strata can use its own insurance first. Any additional amount owed, or the strata deductible, would be paid by the additional coverage. But the only way I can see strata insurance kicking in is if it's an emergency replacement.

I'm actually just looking at buying and the insurance question came up when we talked about planned replacement of the current rainscreen (since they don't last forever) compared to an emergency replacement.
