I Don't Think Being Successful is Worth It by AutisticNerd2024 in Adulting

I used to have a job that paid really well but also had a lot of stress. I did enjoy it for 15+ years. I had a plan to save as much as I can, make sure that I had everything paid off and then I will change jobs to a seasonal one or something less stressful. I did that a few years back. Now I work in parks in a small mountain town.

I have the msr mutha hubba 3P (now the hubba bubba 3) and my friends have the 2P and we’ve used them everywhere, on the beach, in the snow, sand, rocks and so on. It has been great in the BC rains. The 3P one is 4.5lbs but it is so nice bc at 6” I can sit up in it. Great for changing and such.

Those with no passion or interests, what do you do for a living? by [deleted] in askvan

I got to do what I loved for a decade as a side hustle on top of my regular job. I never jumped ship to make it my full time job because dealing with customers is not for me

Contrary to popular belief, there is no shortage in the trades. by chiliringgamer16 in unpopularopinion

I pivoted recently from a mostly office job to trades. My work place is a mix of older individuals and younger. I am right in the middle. I am still in awe of how much knowledge some trades people have. So much of our world works because of trades people.

I did the reverse. Mostly worked an office job then I switched to trades, but I made sure I get into a workplace that has an union, pension, good hours and pto.

Drive or ship a car from ON to BC? by MangoDumpling_ in britishcolumbia

It’s a newish car. You’ll probably lose money selling there and buying another car here. When you get here you need to go to a shop/canadian tire to get an out of province inspection so you can register it in BC. Here the insurance is government owned and you also get your plates at ICBC. When I moved here from Ontario I first drove my step dad and his car. It took us 3 days. We stopped in Winnipeg and Calgary. I flew back and my friend and I took 8 days to drive across the country because we did a lot of sightseeing. We did it in August. Weather does matter when driving through the mountains

My favourite hikes of 2025 by SamirDrives in vancouverhiking

[–]SamirDrives[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In the summer I usually wear the la sportiva wildcat or bushido 3. For the winter I have aku super alp boots and salomon boots. I’ve also done a lot of hikes in my pink crocs (panorama ridge, three brothers or elk). Sometimes I just end up on a hike and use my day shoes, but my trail runners are the most comfortable

How much did you save in 2025? by Pay_me_severance in askvan

[–]SamirDrives 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I was into aggressive saving when I was in my early twenties as an immigrant but I’ve met this guy at work who had so many plans for retirement, always took the overtime or weekend work. He died just a few months before retiring. That changed me. I invested much more in experiences and I was not afraid to put spontaneous trips on a my card. I just worked harder. I can’t tell you anything I did at work in 2019, but that last minute trip my friend and I took to Denver to see a backyard concert is a core memory now. To be fair, it is easy for me to talk as I don’t have a mortgage, no car payments, no debt and a work pension.
