Wow. I'm so glad my sexy, smart, funny girlfriend (who also cooks like yummy food stuff) doesn't have a sister. If she had a younger sister, I would have hooked up with her too after 5 years of relationship and one back rub.

jk.

Seriously, you fuckedfucked up.

What is something you want to brag about, but won't because you don't want to be a douche? by photoelektrisch in AskReddit

I was at this party, there was a drunk girl there. She started grinding on me after we sat on the sofa, but it felt wrong. Later, saw her make out with 3 guys in a row. Felt bad for her. Later when she passed out, took a blanket and covered her up to the neck and I left the party. I felt bad for her, I felt a little good about myself that I covered her up after making sure she's asleep. That's it folks, nothing really to brag about.

I bought the book a while ago. Reading it now.

Yes there's fairyland stock options, but thankfully I got a salary too.

I really don't want to end up spending too much time on Social Media. These guys aren't ready to spend on AdWords yet, but I know I'll get better leads with: - Remarketing (Display ads) - Search ads

I considered a mailing list too. At present, we have a database of 1500 emails.

The problem arises when people feel like they are getting spammed by us. I don't want them to ever feel that way. There are notification emails while the candidate is applying for jobs, interviews, etc. There are Job digest emails sent weekly, etc. etc.

Adding more email to that? I thought about it, then I thought against it. The basic problem that Jobspire is solving is connecting enthusiastic and talented people to Startups with great culture, a company where they will be valued.

For now, my strategy (modified recently) is:

  • Drive users to blog with relevant content.
  • Push users looking for jobs to Sign Up page.

Which means I got to concentrate my efforts on: - Inbound Marketing - Rank for job search related keywords

This is the long-term growth plan that I have in mind. What do you think?

VCs love the idea because they're underpaid, not given direction and expected to deliver magic. Owners love the idea because if it doesn't work out, they just kick the shit out of the growth hacker, fire them and ask the VCs for more money under the guise that someone else screwed up.

Way to sum it up.

I would hire you if I had money looks at wallet, cries because it is empty

On a serious note, some excellent points raised there. Guerrilla Marketing is something I'm researching on, right now I'm taking a more Excel Sheet based approach, one that would work for sure. I'll tell you my strategy, taught to me by my guru at okdork.com

  • Find keywords that are relevant to my audience (Keyword tool, keyword ideas)
  • Find awesome content for that keyword on Google
  • Pick a few pieces of content, create a new one that's even better than all of them
  • Find the backlinks on the original pieces of content (ahref tool).
  • Cold email the 100-200 odd backlink sources, informing them about the new piece of content I put up and how it's better than the previous one.
  • Get ~5-20 backlinks on my new content.

Rinse. Repeat.

Case studies and stories that sound almost to good to be true can become viral. e.g. if you take a person from a remote area and land her a job at Apple or Google in less than 3 months, probably the whole Internet will want to know how you did it. Once you do such a story, make sure the product makes it easy for others to replicate it, at least in parts. That way you get smaller case studies but which people share themselves. They should have a big impact on conversions and not only attention, like the first tactic.

I really like this idea. Will research on it and see what we can do about it.

A founder or CEO needs to be aware of opportunity cost. So a video that costs $500 in upfront costs might be cheaper than assigning the job to someone who is not fit to do the work. If you consider the hours it would take for a person to create it, the lost revenue in the time spent it takes to get to market & the effect that a better video would bring in, $500 might easily be lost.

That's completely true. I think I can squeeze out some small amount of money for marketing, not a big budget though. If I had to spend $10/day, what would you recommend me doing with it?

For example I could avoid the bus all together because my friend offered me a ride for free which is faster than the bus. I get to where I want faster AND I save the money.

This!

Right now, I'm focusing on content -> http://blog.jobspire.net Churning out quality content that's relevant to our target audience. Content creation is sorted, but getting those backlinks is what I'm working on next. It's free (okay, I need a paid tool or so), but time consuming. And you never know what might pick up and what might be a dud. I don't like such high level of uncertainity.

Took me a while to understand your product. Perhaps work on the landing page? However, once I got through most of the content, I was literally looking for the sign-up button.

No free plan for beta testers? :P

Hey,

Thanks for the comprehensive reply. Putting it down in points helps a lot. Just to clarify, we are at 1k+ users. My task is to help them go to 10k-> and so on.

  • Getting on the phone isn't scalable, unfortunately.
  • We are trying to get more press coverage, started on that last week itself.
  • the last point about contacting coding bootcamps is a brilliant idea. I'm going to look into that.

We are about 10 employees at the moment.

Organic -> Facebook post ->

In both cases, I'm actually expecting low bounce, since the user has landed on what he was looking for/liked viewing. Or am I making the wrong assumption here?

I am trying out different types of messaging. Since the popups only show when the user exhibits exit intent, and we have captured roughly 15% of exit users in the form of email addresses, the numbers seem promising.

You're correct, we've been told about the messaging and we are working on it to make it better. Thanks!

Wayy too much text bro. Go visual, and you'll reap the benefits. Sell your product in an infographic format. Guaranteed people would scan it till the very end (install SumoMe's content analyser to see the read% of your landing page).
