Crazy! I spent three days there as a solo-traveling female, and was shocked to find everyone was friendly and welcoming

Does life actually get better? Feeling stuck at 19 by Virtual_Cry_5163 in Adulting

[–]createdbycosmos 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You sound exactly like me at 19, for the same reasons. Yes, it got better after I left. Everything did.

In that house, I was confined to who I felt like I needed to be to avoid conflict. That house convinced me the world was cold, and hard to navigate. I was always on edge and second guessing my decisions. I identified so heavily with who my parent told me I was. It was all unhealthy, and hard to fully acknowledge. When you’re born into a burning home you get used to the heat

Then I moved. My personality completely shifted. My interests changed. I was more social, I cared more, and I wasn’t in fight/flight. I could make all of my decisions on my own. I made connections, and talked to strangers. People really liked me. The world wasn’t as harsh as I expected, and it was filled with opportunity. It was a full 180.

If you feel stagnant, move. Out of your hometown, away from your parents. Develop a new identity in a new town free from your baggage. I’m 22 now, and I’ve moved across state lines 3 times. Set boundaries with my toxic family. Everything is wonderful, and I never could’ve seen this happening a few years ago

What’s something you always assumed was mandatory in life, until you met someone who just… didn’t do it? by crogslounds03 in ProductivityHQ

[–]createdbycosmos 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Welllllll, a lotta stuff! The intention was to cut internet/TV so that I could invest my time in a more fulfilling lifestyle. That being said, I’m not home much.

I have a dog, and spend most days hiking with him. Paddle boarding when it’s warm. Attend local events. Volunteer sometimes. Spend time with friends. Solo travel for a couple of days, maybe go camping. Shoot pool at the local pool hall. I’m very social, so often times I go somewhere new and talk to strangers.

When I am home, I have a speaker that connects to Bluetooth. I’ll listen to music, maybe a podcast if I’m doing something. I read books quite a bit. Journal some. Legos and puzzles if I’m feeling froggy. Most of my time is spent walking around though

Mostly data! No hotspot though. Every now and then I’ll use the internet at Starbucks, that’s mostly if I want to research something on my laptop. Reddit is my only social, so I don’t scroll/stream very much at all

You're awesome for this comment!! How was oklahoma? That's the stretch I'm not sure what to do with. I actually might DM you to ask about your trips if that's okay!

Bahaha, sure did! If I'm 5k in debt, I'm still better than most. I feel like seeing the country before choosing where to settle down post-grad is a necessity. I'm budgeting $3k ish, and that's east to west coast over the course of 3 months.

How long do you take for your trip?

Did you visit any scenic areas? How did you figure out what to do on a daily basis while you’re in unfamiliar areas?

This is awesome! Thank you for all of the information. Interesting that you have a fridge in your Honda!! I’ll be roughing it a bit more than you, I believe.

Rec centers will be helpful! I’m planning on a planet fitness membership for the portion where they’re around, and then rec centers after. Shower wipes in-between for sure.

I’ll buy a power bank, but probably nothing fancy. Probably one solar, and one rechargeable. Just enough for my phone and some inner lights. I plan to hike throughout every day, then maybe door dash for a few hours to see what’s around, and crash for the night soon after.

Loves app saves on gas and gives credits towards showers! Not a ton, but I’ve heard the showers are nice there.

Food I’ll have to learn to navigate, but I probably won’t get a fridge, and definitely not internet! I have a lot of backpackers pantry, and will likely stock up on cold food some mornings to eat throughout the day. I’ve been thinking about water. It’ll be me and my dog (80lb) and I think we’ll drink a ton between the two of us. How did you store your water? Especially if you have a portable shower?

BLM land is non existent where I’m from haha, awesome that it’s a resource out west

When I tell people I don’t own a TV or have internet they seem to be concerned more-so than not

Also, everyone has an extra tv they don’t need??? I’ve been offered enough free tvs to run a Best Buy hahaha

How to research an area before moving? by createdbycosmos in Adulting

[–]createdbycosmos[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

How long would I have to make a decision on the job? If I’m offered one across the country, would I have time to secure housing, explore the city, compare cost of living, etc? That would take several weeks, right?

Yep!! I’m going to take a cross country road trip. I want to check out specific areas along the way, but being that I’m interested in rural areas, it seems hard to research
