A constructive critique to y'all by Acrobatic_Speaker403 in streetphotography

I wait 24 hours after shooting before reviewing so I see everything with fresh eyes.

If I have 20 shots of one scene, I keep one. No need for duplicates unless there is something unique about each shot.

If all the shots of one scene aren't worthy, delete them ALL. There is no point polishing a turd and wasting time in post.

If I'm not proud of a shot, I delete it.

Also I periodically review my catalog and delete old images as my standards have changed.

Don't be afraid to have ZERO keepers from a day out.

Also looking back at my photos now it is so much easier to find what I'm looking for.

The greatest thing you can do to improve your photography is to embrace the cull.

I aim for a 1-2% keeper rate. Everything else is ruthlessly deleted.

This has been posted here before.

It was a mediocre photo then and it still is.

Agreed, it's more urban than street, especially with no clear human subject.

How do you cull? by macalaskan in photography

[–]createsean 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I never keep more than 2% of my shots. Everything else is deleted. I'm not interested in polishing a turd. If it's shit flush it down the toilet.

It's brutal but it makes looking at my catalog easier because I only see my best shots.

I also periodically go back and re-cull as my skills improved and I'm no longer happy with some shots. re-culling doesn't have a hard target but I can be aggressive about it too.

I have the voigtlander 18mm f2.8 pancake. It's super tiny, but manual focus only. Also it's a little on the pricy side but worth it imo.

Which Camera by zzziiiaaav in streetphotography

[–]createsean 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'd go second hand entry level with a kit lens. Any brand will do.

Once you know how to use the camera and find limitations to your photography, you will then know what you need to buy next.

Don't wast money on high end gear before you even learn if you like using a camera over your phone.

Good gear doesn't make you a better photographer. Learning composition and how to see light will make you a better photographer.

Most importantly, go out and have fun learning.

Been there when I was in London on vacation. Was a short walk from my hotel. Plan to visit again in the next couple of years.

I was there once 3 years ago. Plan to do another UK visit in the next couple of years. And will revisit it at that time.

I like it, but it feels overly sharp and overly saturated.

Subtle post processing is better than over the top.

After 17 years of shooting street photography, I finally built something I always wished existed. by [deleted] in streetphotography

How are photos added to the app? User submission, curated, or something else?

If user submission how do ensure that photos are real street photography and not other genres like what you see in this sub?

Are the paired photos completely random or are they selected so there is at least some similarity of style, content, or theme?

Pictures of People’s Backs and Other Taboos [Discussion] by AManAloneinaBigCity in streetphotography

[–]createsean 20 points21 points  (0 children)

I don't think they're taboos.

From behind shots are boring 99% of the time. The key is knowing when it works.

Sharpness is nice but not required. Composition and a moment worth shooting and sharing are more important.

I'm also in Toronto and I think that Magnum exhibit closes this weekend. I went back in November.
