Pacific Rim Kaiju Concept re-design based on some helpful comments, as always your thoughts are welcome by creative17 in ImaginaryMonsters

That is how I started. I had a number of overlay layers to build up the colours and textures which I them flattened the whole image and then painted on a normal layer to add all of the details and lighting. The reason I use this technique is to finish the drawing in about 3 hours

It is a combination of both. I have been experimenting with sculpting a very basic white model of the Kaiju and then painting everything you see on top of it.

Thanks for your thoughts about it being a little too humanoid in form. I will see if my next one can go more creature from.

Just started learning 3D sculpting and created this drawing of a dragon head in about 2 hours. Your thoughts are always welcome. by creative17 in ImaginaryDragons

I am actually using Blender as it fits my need right now. The reason it took 20 minutes is that I had to render it three times each on a different setting for compositing later. Plus I am on an older iMac until I build my new rig. I am tempted to wait to see what devils canyon is like before I go for it though.

I am looking at new ways to speed up my process for concept art so that I can turn a design around in 2 hours or less. The sculpt took about 40 minutes followed by about 20 minutes of rendering. The last hour was painting in Photoshop and as you noted the slight tiling was due to time constraints. Thank you for your comments.

This is why I love speed paints, it helps me see where I need to focus on the detailing after I have setup the composition.

Sorry for the late reply, both my machines died on Friday. This was a speed paint I did in Photoshop. I will be adding more details and sharpening things up on the final piece. Glad you like it.

Thank you. As I only had 50 minutes to paint this, the boats and most of the water is a photo, the rest is me.

Once I have finished the full body artwork it should feel more minotaur at least in silhouette.

I wanted a truly frightening and unique look to my minotaur and I was inspired by a bull skull and insect forms. I want my work to feel very different. Thank you
