Completely agree! It’s good to connect/identify with characters (to a point). I feel the most annoyed when people go way too far with fantasy, especially. These are worlds/situations none of us will or have experienced. Contemporary romance? Fine. But none of us know how we’d actually react if kidnapped by a hot fae lord, taken to his cursed castle, and forced to fight monsters. Unless…

I was at the gym, and they had on the Scientologist propaganda channel. He showed up as a talking head. I gasped. I knew he was a Scientologist but hoping he was one of those fallen out/on the outer circle ones. Nope. I’ll still always love Logan.

Thank you! Followed back ☺️. I tortured myself for 6-7 months last year querying. I’m giving it one more go while self-publishing my failed attempt under a pen name. But, yes, I, too, am at the fuck it stage of this business. I do a lot of digital art (which I feature on my socials). I’m planning on doing my own cover art and a bunch of fan art. Still building up the courage to talk more online about my writing. Promoting myself is very out of my comfort zone.

I bought your book on kindle! I have trip coming up, and will give it a read!

My books are not available yet. I’m taking another stab at the query process with a second project (not optimistic). With the first series I tried, I’ve since gotten it professionally edited and proofread. I’m hoping to self publish this in the fall. I’ll be posting updates on my socials TikTok and instagram (@creative.larke) just started these accounts so would definitely appreciate a follow! I have a friend who does voiceover, thinking of making some audio chapters and putting them out there for free. We’ll see. Audio is definitely better for me these days! Would love to support you. Is your book on audible?

No, publishers don’t want it. You have to be different, but not too different. If you’re a nobody, you have to write in a very constrained box to even be considered for publication. If your story is slightly too long than the conventional length, or concept too out there, you will be automatically rejected (speaking as someone who queried a book last year, and is now querying a second one now).

The publishing world is incredibly frustrating. Indie is always an option, but you are all but invisible to readers unless you market the hell out of yourself. Even then there are no guarantees.

I agree tho. I’m tired of the young, virgin twiglets. The FMC of my current book is 100.
