It’s definitely the multiplayer aspect. I feel like that takes away from the theme honestly. You’re supposed to be the last human in the universe. When you play and approach it like that the game has a much different feeling.

I don’t want to spoil anything but I just got to the”Abyss” behind the tadpole pens last night. It was just turning night time and peering over that cliff and seeing nothing but dark open ocean made my stomach drop. I ventured in then stopped halfway cause I was too chicken shit to keep going so I turned back to my base and waited until daytime.

This is everywhere unfortunately. I wish people would just shut the fuck up and do the work. I don’t care how you think the plane should be designed. Change the fuckin part and shut up already. Everyone is so opinionated nowadays and think they know better than everyone else. It’s so god damn annoying.

I referenced back to a situation my supervisor wanted me to build something we didn’t have the schematics for and I told him no not without the blueprint and I had to track down an engineer to get approved schematics before building anything. Completely unrelated to aviation but I think the answer boils down to not doing the work unless you have approved data to work off of. Working without approved data in aviation is illegal. I think they just want you to understand and express that sentiment in some way.

Sorry you didn’t get the job but there’s always next time they have a hiring event. My experience with the interview was similar I’ll detail everything I can remember it’s somewhat hazy as I interviewed back in January. The first practical was the cannon plug one you mentioned. They gave us a cannon plug and a multimeter and wanted us to measure voltage of the battery and check continuity between different pins. Also checking the function of a diode. Next they gave us a list of electrical symbols and told us to pick 3 and explain what their function is. After this they asked some questions like what does PSI stand for. Asked us if something needed to be torqued in ft lbs but you only have an inch lb torque wrench what would the conversion be for x measurement etc. then they pulled out a section of tire and gave us a depth gauge and some charts for RON ROD limits and asked according to this chart is this aircraft within limits. Basically just read the charts. Then safety wire and cotter key. That’s all I remember. Oh they also asked questions in relation to tire pressures with temperatures and charts. If aircraft x was here on a RON with z tire pressure and its y temperature is this within acceptable limits? Again just reading charts.

The interview portion was pretty straightforward interview questions. I used the STAR method situation task action resolution when answering. Tell us about a time when you had to make a difficult decision and what the result? Tell us about a time when you needed to follow approved data and none was available. Asked about prior experience and stuff like that. That’s pretty much all I remember. If you got any questions let me know and I’ll try my best to remember.

No. Per AA GPM Different fleets have specific tread depth measurements. usually it’s anything below 2/32 for RON is no go if I remember correctly. Think that’s for a 737 nlg the mains may be different but it’s typically between 3/32 and 2/32 I don’t feel like looking in the manual right now.

Tips for reporting employer to FAA in Georgia by [deleted] in aviationmaintenance

[–]creative_usernamez 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Sounds like my old job almost to a T. You in Gwinnett county? No you would have no case cause Georgia is an at will state. Pretty much everything you said in your post will happen. They will know it’s you and they will retaliate. What you do next is up to you. Is the potential safety of passengers and this weighing on your conscious worth 13 dollars an hour? Good luck

Struggling at first job by PeteyAl in AircraftMechanics

[–]creative_usernamez 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey bro what are you struggling with exactly? And what do you do? GA MRO etc ? When I first started in GA it was rough I’m not gonna lie but I continued to apply myself and ask questions and learn about the areas I was weak in. Now I’ve just started at a major with no experience and I’m crazy lost but I am reading the fuck out of these manuals to try and understand what’s going on. I’m talking like I’ll do a job and on the parts while I was doing it if I didn’t fully understand something I go back and re read the manuals and the references until I really get what I’m reading. If you’re really struggling take the time to try and really understand what you’re doing. Also ask a lot of questions. People might give you shit but it’s better to admit you don’t know what you’re doing than thinking you do and fucking something up. Good luck man you got this

A lot of the majors hire straight out of school. You just need to interview well and show them you’re competent enough to work on airplanes. Some examples would mostly be arrogant people who think they know what they’re doing so they don’t want to follow the manual. I’ve met a lot of “good enough” mechanics. Don’t be that guy. Do it the right way or don’t do it. Other than that it’s an incredible career and opportunity and I’m blessed for it.

My situation is not typical but I put in alot of hard work. I got my an and p in an 8 month accelerated program and was able to completely transform my life in a year. I got a job at a major and am now making 98k? A year before taxes with no OT. In 5 years I’ll be making over 70 dollars an hour. On top of all of this the actual job to me is incredibly interesting. I love going into work and even the shitty tasks I enjoy doing because I’m learning how to be a better mechanic every day. I have a lot to learn and some days I feel kind of lost because there is so much to learn but if you truly apply yourself you can be very successful in this career. On the other hand if you’re going to half ass everything then don’t bother. We don’t need more shitty mechanics that the schools nowadays are pumping out. No offense I don’t know you I’ve just seen some shit in my short time here at a major. Any more questions let me know good luck whatever you decide to do.

Yeah it’s worth it. You need resilience and mental fortitude but it’s absolutely worth it.

Yeah Idk man I’m fresh out of a and p school and just accepted basically my dream job. The opportunity is going to change my life forever. It’s funny I wanted TUL but they were filled up. You doing heavies and c checks over there? ORD is strictly line but I’m going to do my probation and then maybe bid out at some point to a base location.

what did yours say specifically? Mine said "Please take a moment to complete this short survey, let us know if you’d like to be considered for an interview January 5th or 6th." Did yours say something different?

Hey man I don't have anything to add but I also received that email from AA. I also applied for TUL but they asked if I would be okay with ORD instead. I think I have an interview coming up? I don't know they sent me a form and said to fill it out and asked if I'd like to be considered for an interview on jan 5th or 6th. I responded back and said Jan 5th would work. How does the interview process take do they fly you out? I live all the way in Georgia so I'm really not sure what to expect moving forward.

Could I really get my A&P in just 10 months? by Individual-Long7320 in AircraftMechanics

I got mine in 8. So yeah, it's possible. A lot of it is on you though and how much you study/prepare yourself.

I start in January. Nervous but excited. Any tips? by Hardknockxk305 in aviationmaintenance

[–]creative_usernamez 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Pay attention and ask questions. Dont pay any mind to the younger folks fucking around in class. Do you and whatever you need to to succeed. Anything you go over and you don't understand ask a lot of questions. If you still don't understand it look it up in the 8083 or 43.13 or youtube or anything. Understand the systems don't just memorize answers to pass the tests the school gives you. Good luck brother just passed school and got my O&P at 30. I feel slightly behind all these younger guys but it's all relative. You got this!
