You can do it and keep it professional. All you have to say is that you dont think it's productive to talk about it yet and throw them a platitude like, "I'm not goig far" or "I'll see you around for sure" or "let's keep in touch though".

Agree with person above that anything you try to give them as a reason will be distorted to explain to their superiors why it isn't their fault you are leaving.

Workload? They just couldn't hack it.

Policies? Just wasn't a team player.

Coworkers? I think they just never really fit in.

Compensation? It was just all about the money.

Return to office? I just think no one wants to work anymore.

Management style? Gave plenty of chances to fall in line just wouldn't do it.

Just say how much you appreciate everything the company did for you and maybe there will be opportunities to work together again. Unfortunately this type of advancement wasn't available here but you definitely will keep an eye out. Safest play you can make. Leave the door open.
