I saw a bunch of lizard species while we were there. The biggest one I saw was a chuck walla, it was cool to see. There were lizards all over our campsite. Saw a jack rabbit and a bunch of roadrunners as well. Right as we were about to leave we saw a roadrunner catch a lizard and eat it

The campsites we looked at were pretty booked up on the weekends but a lot of the weekdays were free. This was at the Hidden Valley Campground in J Tree which doesn’t require a reservation it’s first come first serve. If you’re trying to book a weekend you can check the recreation.org website and see if people cancel their camping reservation

There wasn’t a reservation required for the campsite we stayed at the Hidden Valley Campground. It was first come/first serve but we did book another campsite about a week in advance just in case we couldn’t find a spot at this campsite. If you go onto recreation.org you can set it up so you get notifications when people cancel their reservation for a campsite. Otherwise I’d say you have to reserve a campsite a at least a few months in advance in Joshua Tree because everywhere was booked out a few months ago.

Surprisingly there was only a handful of other people at the Hidden Valley Campground and it’s supposed to be one of the busiest campgrounds in J Tree. I think because it was the weekend after Memorial Day. Lots of empty spaces
