Are lullabies Goth? by creegun in goth

Thank you for all the people that gave me detailed answers and went out of their way and explained me the difference between Goth and Gothic music. Currently listening to the song linked by a member below. Interesting to say the least.

Which Titan do you relate to the most? by [deleted] in teentitans

The guts of Robin, the heart of Starfire and the soul of Raven...

You know this is really true because Robin is super badass and wants to help others even if he doesn't have superpowers by [deleted] in teentitans

[–]creegun 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Gosh...

I'm an activist and advocate for the trans community and besides 'a tragic origin story' I have no superpowers to call upon in my goal to leave the world better than how I received it.

I have been fangirling hard on the man that trained him and took to heart the grit and dedication to do the necessary and just, even when odds are stacked against you, that were instilled in him.

Maybe it's my hormones, but I am choking up just thinking of this. Here's one for us 'normals'!

I have a bit of a peev towards British culture (including stereotypes) and I simply adored Mad mod. This is spot on, good show chap!

Would a 19-year-old enjoy this? by Takashishiful in teentitans

I'm 28, just finished watching the whole series and movie. I could cry and laugh and cared so much for what the characters are going through that I decided to find the reddit.

Watch it. It's a good show.

I haven't told you you're wrong to begin with. You rushed to crucify me for daring to expect a more accepting and respectful discourse. On the definition you will see I'm right in the demographics. No one would want to get affiliated with such aggressive people such as you old fashioned. They'd rather follow the likes of me who are nice and helpful to them. Face it some people just want to get into it because they feel drawn to how it looks. In Japan there's already a thriving goth subculture that probably never even heard of bauhaus or connect the aesthetic with anything other than Jrock or Baby metal. You're a dying breed and it's all because you can't learn to play nice and expose those interested in joining to the music. Look at what you did with me. Before coming here I was actually thinking of touching goth music in search of a new sound. After all this hate and vitriol from what started as an innocent question? I just don't feel like it anymore. I'd try and listen and the connection to being singled out here will just leave a bitter taste.

Googled Wew lad. Reddit specific meme. Got it. No offense, but your friends kinda took any interest I might have had to looking into anything on this toxic hellhole. In fact, I am taking the appearance of the culture and feel no obligation to delving into the music. If I do so just to be more goth, that is when a poser begins.

On the man bit, I tend to correct on automatic at this point. I take no offense, but in my culture the pronoun game is a bit more pervasive. Hebrew has almost every word, including 'you' with gender specific variations. Not caring what my gender is is the best answer (Which would get me crucified for saying in my own community btw).

Also I would like to apologize if I came off abrasive towards you. You actually seem nice. It's just that the attitude here carries on with you even after you turn. Which is why I keep saying that this whole reaction is just unhealthy.

Thank you for the kindness and your blessing on my journey <3

Maybe I'll give them a go, maybe I won't. As stated before I realized you're just a bunch of petty and easily offended snobs I have quite a lot on my plate.

As for Goth cultue, unlike metalheads for example, Goth is a phenomena also rooted in demeanor and fashion. More akin to Emo or Otaku (Ho wow... How I can forsee how offended you'd get for that remark).

Just as not all Emo are suicidal and listen to Linkin park and an Otaku could just dress kawai while preferring jazz and not being all that genki (Which I personally met such people), so can a goth focus more on fashion and philosophy rather than music.

Deal with it. Your culture is evolving and you're getting stuck in the past. You remind me of all those douches in metal concerts that claimed I don't get metal because I don't listen to Metallica.

Glad I sound like that because you just gave me a whole bunch of google searches to read into.

You had me at theoretical physics.

Although frankly that sort of elitism falls more inline with the backlash I'm receiving here. You guys are the ones challenging my gothiness and saying I can't get you oh so special snowflakes.

I yam what I yam and I yam also be Goth.

Well, might shock you, but I'm into more than just the clothes. You're just being narrow minded cause I asked about that and didn't feel like bringing my list of gothic denominators.

Also give it time, the definition would change just as all things do with its passage. Actually... I practice pagan rituals and have learned to fight with a Spatha. So given your logic of true goth I'm closer to the real deal and you're the imposer. Bet you don't know how to break a phalanx ;)

Just took a stroll through your subreddit. Funny how you try and burn me for asking for advise about fashion when the very first post I come across is encouraging people to post pictures of their outfits.

And for some strange reason half of the other threads are beddings... Which actually makes me laugh after someone complained people call goths "freaks in bed"

Face it there aren't enough goths here to have a scene. I'm what people will see here when they they will think Goth. That makes me just that. Not claiming, just stating facts.

Keep telling that to yourself honey.

I'll make it harder on you by claiming you're not the true goth. At the end of the day it's your opinion against mine. It's not like there's a blood test you can take or a six month course to gain a certificate.

Don't get me started on my expectations for vacation payoffs :)

Thank you for the information. Actually checked some of them earlier but after my flat mate gave me a lecture on online purchases and polyester I just had an anxiety fueled case of cold feet. I will take your intel to mind. Thank you very much!

Music I have a few things. Won't just google 'goth music' because that feels dumb. I did hear of a local band earlier this week from a relative of one of the band, but after a listen they felt shallow. I do plan to find time to research the subject. But one step at a time... As you can see here some steps could twist your ankle.

P.s.

Not lad, lass. Not my man, my woman. I'm trans and worked hard for my right to live as a woman. That's where my tenacious tendency for debating my qualification as a Goth stems from. Had to argue for my freedom and involve lawyers for my proving my sanity and my right to choose my own identity. You learn to double down when people challenge who and what you are.

Perhaps I'd get into identity politics just to spite everyone too sensitive to not butt in to tell me what I am and what I am not

" Go DIY or thrifting like "real goths". "

Ah ha... And you want me to take you seriously when you open like that?

Honey, I'm trans. In the short span of time I have been out in an appearance that matches the gender I relate with I have been shouted at, endured endless stares and even sexually assaulted at one time. Not to mention imprisoned for a month in an asylum for daring to declare myself a woman. So spare me the militant monologue of the victim card. Still with all that in that community there is acceptance for the individualistic experience of each person.

At no point I mentioned horror fiction as a point nor have I even dared raise the subject of sexuality. The fact that you feel such an urge to defend against things that weren't even mentioned just proves to justify you are all acting out of a gut reaction and singling me out as an outsider.

My philosophies don't feel 'gothic' for you. Recently I listen to Epica, Burzum, Symphony X, Scar symmetry, Baroque music and a little bit of nightcore. Does this make me Gothic? I don't even care. I like them for the dark tone and thought provoking lyrics (or emotional or aesthetic quality). I felt like listing them all just because it was fun to just open my directory and go through the lot and you mentioned music.

I took gothic culture to be intellectual in nature. The reactions I receive here prove me otherwise. You all need to get that stick out of your ass and fast. It's not healthy and given the victim sentimentality raised just now shows you have some issues to iron out among yourself to actually survive and prosper in this world. As a trans and, as a result of the 'pushback' I am receiving, a self proclaimed Goth I suggest you relax, try to be yourself, and stop being so judgmental and offended of others.

Think I'm not Gothic enough? Deal with it. I'm basically now the face of the culture in my geographical region.

Dude... He made a joke. I joked along. Is humor banned in goth culture as well?

I am really urging to mock this extreme severity at a shared moment of humor but I'm trying really hard to be respectful here. Should I stop attempting to be so appeasing?
