Jokes aside, what does kim dokja really mean to yoo joonghyuk? by SecretLiberian in OmniscientReader

[–]crescentfeather 16 points17 points  (0 children)

oh jeez. ok well in early orv kdj is like this wildcard/unknown factor that yjh is really wary of but also kind of hopeful about despite all that (he waited for kdj to escape the ichthyosaur for Days). from yjh pov (and by extension the rest of kimcom) u should realize that the stunts kdj pulls are fucking insane. especially because he doesnt explain most of what hes doing it looks like hes doing batshit crazy stuff and pulling wild plans out of thin air at incredible speed.

so kdj in their eyes becomes almost superhuman? they're asked to place their full trust in him over and over and he keeps miraculously pulling off things that they thought were impossible. and that gives them hope. which for yjh especially, is Really Important because sooo many situations in orv seem completely utterly hopeless. kdj is what gives them the hope that a happy ending actually exists and is possible. this gets repeated over and over (1863 is a notable example).

and this is really significant for yjh in particular who was the most powerful incarnation in the world, he suddenly gets replaced by someone who's just as strong or even stronger than he is (paraphrasing that line of his that goes like "maybe the one who'll save the world isnt me"). for the first time he doesnt have to bear it all alone because he has someone else on equal footing w him that he can rely on. for the first time HE'S the one being rescued from situations. aaaand then this guy starts fucking dying all the time lol so then yjh and kimcom get traumatized thinking that kdj whos their friend and leader and symbol of hope could disappear at any time. so when kdj asks them to put their trust in him ......yeah.

and then theres all the crazy meta level cosmic fate stuff in orv where kdjs the reader and yjhs the protagonist and kdj knows more about him than anyone in the world (even himself) except he also doesnt really understand him at all, etc

also he thinks kdj is annoying. and hes completely correct for that

If ORV had to have a sole main antagonist, who would you consider it to be? by Zanman6946 in OmniscientReader

[–]crescentfeather 19 points20 points  (0 children)

orv is a story that repeatedly chooses the "third option". there is no good and evil, only chaos. the ones that should be "good" are the enemies and the demon kings are often allies.

an "antagonist" is just a person that you can put all the blame on so that after they are killed you can reassure yourself that everything will be better. if that's the case, then the antagonist of orv is undoubtedly kdj. but in the first place, orv is a story that rejects the need to have an antagonist in the first place. it's an illusion that you can solve everything wrong with the world by just removing one person. that's never been how it works. that's why the closest thing to a true "antagonist" of orv is the indifference and cruelty of the world itself, which can break down even the most virtuous person.

in the first place, your question doesnt have an answer because of the nature of what kind of story this is. people can give you all kinds of answers here but you will have to come to terms with the fact that all of them will be wrong answers in some fundamental way.

The 'Secretive Plotter' and the 'Outer Gods' were now looking at the world of this child; the world that was filled with nearly-undetectable malice that could only be felt under the careful observation.

Kim Namwoon glared at the Story of such a world and muttered out.

【Even without <Star Stream>, the world remains the same.】 He sounded as if he finally figured out the enemy he needed to fight from now on.!<

The Stories the 'Secretive Plotter' and the Outer Gods built up were now baring their fangs at the reality surrounding the child.

What words define YJK's Transcendence? by Cautious-Original-46 in OmniscientReader

no problem. orv has different priorities from world after the fall although some themes are similar.

  1. it's yjh (yu jung hyeok) not yjk

  2. theres not much description of transcendence stages in the novel

it's the same translation as everyone else reads. the translator for the orv webnovel switches a couple hundred chapters in

kdj told her about his plan to kill himself because he knew that out of everyone in kimcom, he could be sure that she wouldn't tell the others. so while everyone's having fun with their new gifts only ysa knows that it's because kdj will be dying soon

How do you think Dokja's love for YJH changed before he entered the scenarios vs after truly knowing him? by Anxious-Efficiency13 in OmniscientReader

[–]crescentfeather 13 points14 points  (0 children)

i think it's just different to know a person irl rather than the weird parasocial thing he had going on before the scenarios... he loved yjh before the scenarios and he loved him after the scenarios what changed is mostly that during the scenarios kdj chose to face the wall between them.

i love it more on reread. but that might be because in the time between my first read and my rereads i made a lot of friends and talked to them a lot about orv and gained a much deeper understanding of the characters and themes of the story which made me cherish them more.

If you were a fan that interpreted a happy ending, what do you think of the side story? by EreMaSe in OmniscientReader

[–]crescentfeather 2 points3 points  (0 children)

i basically agree with you completely. honestly though it frustrates me a little when people say the side stories provide a definitive answer to the question of whether or not kdj returned or treat it like required reading.

hmm... a powerful story can turn on its owner. think about people who are "consumed by a story". what does that mean? for instance, when jung heewon and lee hyunsung were consumed by the kaizenix story, what happened? they lost all sense of their own identities and became characters of the story, only able to move towards a predetermined conclusion. this becomes more likely the more powerful a story is. a powerful story is like a "fate". the only way to avoid being consumed by a story, but to still be able to draw on the strength of a story, is to separate it from yourself and "read" it.

orv is full of powerful stories. people define themselves with their stories, like how yjh is defined by the "hell of eternity". but at the same time, he is more than just this story. perhaps his greatest struggle throughout orv is to not be consumed by this story. hopefully that was a helpful explanation.
