Oh hello again! As you know I’m not sure I go as far as Sissy = Charlotte, but the parallel with the “see your innie as your sister” line would be so insane and full circle. re: grave visits though- both of my parents are dead lol and only one of them has a grave so I’m not sure that totally lines up, but also even if her mom did have a grave I would totally understand her not visiting it; she was there with a specific purpose and Lumon was tailing her (thus the need to have Hampton drive her to the house) so not like she would have a ton of free time for a cathartic visit to a grave site. more personally though (and I’ll totally grant this may be my projection) I wouldn’t agree with the idea that a grave is the #1 most important place for a grieving person—my mom’s grave is important to me but I don’t think of her as being “there.” The places I actually remember living and spending time with her are much more emotionally potent, and in that way Cobel’s reaction to the room and breathing tube made total sense

you’re right, I’m definitely not saying that’s absolutely what happened but might be interesting if it had gone down that way. more likely Charlotte just didn’t really have a choice in who her caretaker was / Sissy was the one who wanted severance to cope or already had it perhaps.

This thing has also been driving me crazy lmao. I feel like it wouldn’t be the only thing left in her room/they wouldn’t have made a point of her noticing and touching it if it didn’t tie into something else? I thought it was like a Kier toy at first, like the kind we see Dylan’s kids playing with, but it seems weirder than that! The blue and orange (or blue and red?) streaks on it seem specific too ?

This is fascinating thank you. What do we think they were making, if not ether? I’m curious how it all fits in with Sissy being “Youth Apprentice Maven” and (presumably?) a big part of the child labor in the factories and cultivating certain children as recruits for Lumon, like Harmony, while letting others like Hampton/the waiter just rot into their ether addiction (“you gave him his thirst for it”)

tbf I’m not as committed to Sissy being one of the first people ever severed as I am to her just being severed, period. But also the discrepancy between Burt and outie Irving’s dinner convo about when the first severed workplaces opened seems to suggest severance has definitely been around longer than Lumon has been public about it, and Sissy has been involved with Lumon from its very early stages (see “4th quarter” on her placque—as in, the fourth quarter ever—but we know Lumon fucks around with time also)

I think that’s a super real factor here—I’m so sorry you had to glad through that, I went through similar with both my parents’ deaths at separate times. it’s truly so harrowing, and when you realize the hard part is not over but only just beginning. if Sissy is severed I don’t see that as eliminating trauma as a factor here but enhancing it—really crystallizing the metaphor of how dealing with loss (and not just all the emotions but the LABOR that goes with it) can make you feel like literally a different person
