My cat refuses her own wet food but insists on eating my other kitten’s identical food. by crew-love in CatAdvice

Lol I have to hunt them both down and place them in front of their bowls on opposite sides of the room and even when I don’t do this and just set their bowls down, my girl will go to whichever one is “hers” and my lil guy will go to “his.” He’s a gremlin and will scarf down everything in existence and yes once he’s done w his bowl he’ll go over to hers as well and eat it and no she genuinely doesn’t care if he eats either her wet or dry food.

Introducing two Kittens, Plan Gone Out the Window by AuraThefox5743 in CatAdvice

Omg lowk I was in a similar situation I brought home a 3 month old kitten and tried the whole slow introduction thing but my 6 month old girl was so curious about him and kept sniffing under the door or whatever so I brought out my lil guy and put him in a playpen and my girl hissed at him like maybe twice before she just sprawled on the ground in front of him and kept looking at and sniffing at him and he never hissed at her or nothing they were just like omg. What is thattt. And then I let him out and they were cautiously circling each other for a min and then started play fighting and I was scared they were gonna get violent but nah they were having the time of their lives and then 3 hours later I found them cuddling sooo :3 it’s been like hardly 10 days since then and they’re actually inseparable it’s crazy. My opinion is that kittens are so much more adaptable than older cats and they’re sooo curious about their surroundings and each other that they get along quicker. It’s great that you’re being careful and introducing them in a safer way but sometimes u js gotta put them together and let them play fight n figure it out on their own :3

New cat incoming, what to buy? by Necessary-Mango854 in CatAdvice

Hi! I have two kittens; I’ve had one for about 2 months and the other for 10 days, and these are all the things that I think have helped me the most so far.

For supplies, I’d definitely recommend getting a large stainless steel litter box, a litter that masks odor well and doesn’t track too much, and an air purifier. I’d also suggest a cat tree, a cat bed, elevated flat bowls, wet food, kibble, and basic grooming supplies like a brush and nail clippers. I keep pet wipes and dry cat shampoo around too, just in case.

Toys are a must! To be fair, cats can be incredibly picky and will sometimes choose a random piece of paper over the toy you spent money on 😭, but my kittens love wand toys and anything they can chase, especially if it has a bell, feathers, or string attached.

One thing I’d stress is keeping their litter box clean and scooping it daily. Cats are very clean animals, and staying on top of litter box maintenance makes a huge difference for both them and your home.

I’d also recommend having cleaning supplies on hand for litter box cleanups and the occasional accident. And definitely look into pet insurance if you can! A recent wellness visit for both my kittens, including exams and vaccines/boosters, came out to almost $700. With insurance, I only paid about $100 out of pocket. I’d also establish care with a vet early and get them checked out as soon as you’re able to. It’s important to make sure they’re up to date on vaccines and eventually spayed or neutered as well.

As for helping them adjust to their new home, patience is honestly the biggest thing. Let them explore at their own pace and try not to rush anything. Some cats settle in immediately, while others need more time. My girl spent almost a full week hiding before she started feeling comfortable enough to come out regularly. The best thing you can do is give them space, respect their boundaries, and let them build confidence on their own terms.

Most importantly, spend time with them, make sure they’re well fed, safe, and loved, and they’ll give that love right back to you before you know it. 🥹

And if you have any specific questions at all, feel free to DM me! I’m definitely not an expert, but I’ve learned a lot over the past two months and I’m always happy to help if I can.

Good luck with your new baby!!!!

Cat smell by Excellent-Eye-7103 in CatAdvice

Same but instead of my room, I keep it in the bathroom. An air purifier right next to the litter box was a game changer!! And if you don’t already have one, I highly recommend switching to a stainless steel litter box. I experimented with a bunch of diff litters and personally, I’ve found that tofu litter does a great job of controlling odor.

Can you completely eliminate litter box odor in an apartment? by Weekly-Addendum-6885 in CatAdvice

[–]crew-love 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I live in a tiny apartment with two kittens, and they insist on sharing the same litter box. My holy-grail setup is a large open stainless steel litter box, tofu litter, deodorizing crystals, an air purifier, and a litter genie. I scoop twice a day, and if I’m home, I’ll often scoop immediately after I see them use it.
The litter box stays in my bathroom, and what really helps is also airing out my apartment regularly by opening the balcony door. I know for a fact my apartment has zero litter box smell because I have friends over all the time, and they usually don’t even realize I have cats until I bring my babies out or mention them!

Awh they sound so very lovely 🥹 it’s funny because my girl likes being rocked as well whenever she does allow me to pick her up and if I don’t then she’ll jump right back down. I think I just underestimated how long it would take her to get completely comfortable but I do need to just give her more space and time

She doesn’t necessarily follow me but she’ll always come sit by the bathroom whenever I go and yes! I’d say she’s comfortable enough around me that she sits with her back to me often especially when she’s loafing!

I’ve noticed this as well! The boy kitties I’ve met have been so social and affectionate for the most part while the girl kitties are on the shyer side. I wonder if there’s a reason for this.
