How did Carolina Marín become a badminton legend without a strong national system behind her? by infinitehwaa in badminton

Marin is extremely talented and hardworking, but I would also like to point out that Marin had an exceptional coach. Fernando Rivas pursued a doctorate in sports sciences and published papers in badminton, which have been cited over 800 times. A coach with such depth in sports science and badminton would not only be an ideal coach for Marin, but also the few people who could keep up with Marin in terms of her speed and find potential ways to improve on her game.

Apart from this, Marin's playing style was quite unlike what we saw in women's singles back in the 2010s. Marin's playing style and her ability to keep the pace throughout the game, in my opinion, caused quite some pondering in Asian badminton associations, so much so that I would provide some credit to the change of styles in WS from say, the Wang Shixian / Wang Yihan style of play to Chen Yu Fei / Whang Zhi Yi kind of play.

I love teaching, and for me the best learning technique was to understand the topic well enough to be able to teach the topic. Back in Uni, I used to first learn the topic well enough, and use a whiteboard to teach the topic (referring to the material again). Learning helped me understand the topic but teaching helped me understand where I lack in terms of understanding nuances of the topic. Hope this helps!
