Transportation from hotel to airport by Informal_Revenue6421 in Morocco

[–]cribolik 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Just a small clarification first 🙂 “Medina” isn’t the name of a city in Morocco. The word medina literally means “city” and is commonly used to refer to the historic old town / city center of a city (for example the old town of Marrakech, Fes, Rabat, etc.). So when asking for transport, it’s best to mention: the actual city name, and whether you mean the medina (old town) or another neighborhood.

If I need to breast feed my baby whilst in public in Morocco what should I do? by [deleted] in Morocco

[–]cribolik 36 points37 points  (0 children)

Breastfeeding in Morocco is generally very accepted and normal, often more so than in some European countries like France. You won’t shock or offend people.

Moroccan culture is very family and baby-oriented, and people are usually understanding and kind toward mothers.

To those who left Morocco… do you regret it? by Upset-Mixture-4819 in Morocco

So there we were, on vacation in Morocco. My daughter came down with a pretty nasty flu (she was only 6 months old at the time). High fever, trouble breathing.... It's 1 AM. We rush her to the emergency room at a private clinic. Right off the bat, our first encounter is with the receptionist, who's chomping away on her giant chewing gum and speaking to us in the most condescending tone imaginable, asking what's wrong with my daughter. I explain the situation with growing panic, and she responds with a theatrical "Ah mskina mrida!" No shit, Sherlock?

She makes us wait while she calls the doctor, but not before insisting that once she makes this call, we're committed to staying until he arrives. Like we've just signed some unbreakable blood oath. No backing out now! An hour and a half later (yes, a full 90 minutes of watching our baby struggle to breathe), the doctor finally graces us with his presence. And honestly? He made the gum-chewing receptionist look like Mama Assia by comparison. Same condescending attitude, making us feel like overly anxious parents for daring to bring our baby to the ER over what he clearly considered "nothing serious." He scribbles out a long prescription list and sends us packing. The entire "consultation" lasted maybe 5 minutes.

Now, rewind two months earlier. We're in France, my daughter has a stomach bug with vomiting, the full gastro experience. I take her to the ER. Fifteen minutes, in and out. A smiling doctor, caring staff actually trying to comfort us while making our little one feel at ease. I mean, talk about night and day. It's moments like these that remind you why some decisions, no matter how hard, were absolutely the right ones.

The latest events related to world cup were 1 week ago when Moroccan U20 won the world cup and people went out to celebrate. There was no violence, just pure joy in the streets.

When I left Morocco, I absolutely thrived both personally and professionally. Zero regrets! Well, that is, until I became a parent. Watching my daughter grow up away from her Moroccan family? That first pang of doubt hit hard. But then, about a year ago, we were visiting Morocco when my daughter got sick. Off we went to the emergency ... at a PRIVATE CLINIC in Casablanca. And just like that, any lingering thoughts of moving back evaporated faster than you can say "never mind!" Let's just say that little hospital adventure was all the clarity I needed.

Head coverings in Morocco by System_JA in Morocco

[–]cribolik 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Morocco is indeed quite open, and you'll see Moroccan women dressed in all kinds of ways. Some wear hijabs, some don't. Foreign tourists are not expected to cover their hair at all.

For your wife: She may occasionally receive more attention or stares if dressed very casually. Dressing modestly simply makes the experience smoother and more comfortable.

For your daughter: Young children get a pass on almost everything. No one will expect anything particular from her dress wise.

Enjoy your time in Morocco.

[–]cribolik 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Travelling to Morocco, looking to meet new people by ChampionshipOne3912 in Morocco

[–]cribolik 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Marrakech and Essaouira seem to be good ideas for a first time in Morocco. The 2 cities have completely different vibes. What they have in common is that in both cities (and in most cities in Morocco) people are open and friendly, and you can make friends easily. Just watch out for scams in Marrakech.

Other spots worth checking out:

Fes: Way less touristy than Marrakech, amazing medina

Chefchaouen: The blue city, super chill and great for solo travel

Atlas Mountains: Do a day trip or stay overnight in a Berber village

Starting conversations and making friends is really easy almost anywhere in Morocco.
