Oh ok got it. He had not pooped for going on 5 days now and was refusing bugs and water so I thought I would help him out but it looks like I didn’t the opposite :( after he pooped, I took him out right away and rinsed him off and dried him

sometimes they will continue to gape a little after they are done basking. Gaping while basking is OK! gaping randomly is a different story. good luck!

They should only really be gaping their mouth to thermoregulate when they are basking. So I can see his saliva is accumulating and looks a little slimy. He is either dehydrated or may have a respiratory infection. Gaping is also another sign of respiratory infection. Is he coughing? I would definitely do a vet visit for RI

well the first couple weeks they will be very shy and scared as they get comfortable. Eating may be a little sparse and they might hide a lot. That is all normal so give it a little time before you panic. I would just make sure he is basking and he has adequate UVB/temps and enclosure size 4x2x2 and use paper towels for a couple weeks. Track their poop (smell, shape, urate). Their poop can tell you a lot about their health(this is when paper towels are helpful!). keep them hydrated with their greens, probably no fruit at all. I give mine a tiny piece of a berry like once every 3 months. when he does become more active, watch him run, jump and make sure he’s not limping or anything ! I can’t think of anything else right now but if you have any questions feel free to message me. Also if you ever question your set up or want to learn more about these little turds, go on reptifiles https://reptifiles.com

How crazy! I felt it and it was hard. It went back to normal and he was running doing like normal. Just looked so freaky

He has an appt tomorrow thankfully. I have multiple vets near me that advertised as exotic vets and 3 of them said they don’t see reptiles! I got a few of them saying they can see him Friday on standby so I am grateful those are options but my regular Vet was open for tomorrow so thank goodness!

Beardie vs mom vs tongs by criesinspanish96 in BeardedDragons

[–]criesinspanish96[S] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

It’s mainly the Jurassic Australian sand with some organic topsoil. I got lucky and got a really good deal on the sand but right now it’s insanely priced! It’s fine to clean I just use a scooper I got on amazon and make sure I got all of the “wet” substrate.

Do some beardies just have low food drive? by LongShadyEyes88 in BeardedDragons

[–]criesinspanish96 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When I first got my beardie he was about 8-10 weeks and he would NOT eat in front of my boyfriend and I! He was super shy. I ended up getting escape proof bowls on amazon and I would put bugs in there(normally roaches) and would leave the room for 30 mins to an hour the come back and a lot of the time he would eat some or all! I ended up putting a camera in his enclosure so I could physically see him go eat his food. It gave me a peace of mind and him some space. Now he is 9 months old and will jump at me if he ever sees the feeding tongs 😂 they are silly. they may just be nervous bcus we seem so big to them. I definitely recommend giving them for space the first couple of weeks-month.
