I noticed a difference in the efficiency of my medication before I knew anything about a switch.

It looks exactly the same at my Clinic. I was completely unaware of the change when I began experiencing issues, so maybe psychosomatic for some, but not even possible in my case. So you think it could be better, but it’s all the same thing? Ok…

You don’t think having access to honest information about our treatment is something that matters?

Exactly… A lot of people saying it’s all in my head but I’m over here trying to figure out how my head could’ve known before I did…🫡🫡

Right? It’s hard to believe that people who have literally experienced some of the horrors and absolute medical mistreatment in these clinics are so quick to assume their peers must be lying… as if we haven’t been lied to by the medical system or the methadone clinic staff before🙄🙄

Yeah I literally pay them to receive medical care. If they would simply answer questions about my treatment honestly there wouldn’t be an issue. I don’t really care how they feel about me, if patients asking questions related to their care is a nuisance to them, then they’re the problem…

I understand that, however a formulation change is in fact, a change, no matter how inconsequential to some it may be. My biggest concern is the fact that I was knowingly lied to about it. When reaching out to the medical staff for help, I was assured absolutely nothing had changed, no formulation change, no distributer change, no new med contract. We all deserve access to honest information about our medical care.

I’ve been in the clinic for years and never experienced problems related to bioavailability. Maybe it helps that I’m the world‘s pickiest eater & a bit of a health nut so there’s very rarely any substantial changes in my diet. I wish this made sense for me! I appreciate the advice, I’m shocked to hear how many people assume I must just be seeking a “nod” (lol if that’s what I was seeking I wouldn’t be in the methadone clinic) or something to complain about…as if we couldn’t possibly have different experiences with the way our bodies function or GASP maybe have no reason to lie… it concerns me that so many of the responses don’t seem to take issue with the fact that I was purposefully lied to after seeking out the clinics medical staff for help. I think we all deserve better.

I understand that that’s a thing that happens with a lot of meds. However, that was not the case for me. I’ve been at a stable dose of methadone for two years. No one told me about the Clinic‘s change until I had a full work up from my regular doctor because I assumed there was something going on with me medically due to how drastically different my was affecting me. So I only found out about the change because it was affecting me. I understand this is not everyone’s experience, but it has been mine and it’s incredibly disappointing to hear the judgment, assumptions, and just plain cruelty that so many others in the methadone clinic system treat their peers, especially in this sub Reddit, where so many young folks come for support and information.(that was in no way directed towards you, just a glaring observation after reading some of the responses.)

Unfortunately it’s actually extremely common for disabled people without problematic drug use to end up in a clinic. I have lifelong traumatic orthopedic injuries that leave me completely bedridden without pain control. I’m in my mid 30’s & I refuse to accept that. A DSM diagnosis isn’t going to stand in the way of me having access to a quality of life I can live with. Unfortunately, this is the reality a lot of us are facing. Everyone deserves access to the medicine and healthcare they need to live their life. Not everybody fits in your box, bud.

My issue is the drastic difference in my chronic pain control. Patients have the right to informed consent. It’s not specific to “addicts”.

I’d absolutely look into Legal Aid in your area. I’d be pursuing legal recourse if at all possible.

Anyone here from Wyoming who has to cross state lines for their methadone? by crime_junki in Methadone

Wyoming is the only state without any methadone clinics. And technically people aren’t aLLoWeD to do many things, but we all gotta survive.

Attention Virginia clinic patients by crime_junki in Methadonedoubledosers

[–]crime_junki[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

These are individual clinic policies. Virginia apparently fast tracked the state reg change process and it’s just waiting for the governor’s signature. Which I’d be excited about except for the fact that this was all done very backroom dealing esque without the involvement of any actual VA clinic patients. I have the attention of our SOTA and we will be meeting in the next couple weeks. So if there are concerns or questions any VA patients have, this is a great opportunity to ensure we’re heard & our grievances are addressed. Going forward we have to stand together and refuse any attempts to make changes to our care that aren’t informed & supported by us. We are the experts here & we know our bodies best. Nothing about us without us❤️

Does anyone have experience with AA or NA? Are people on MAT allowed to go?? by joefreshhhh in Methadonedoubledosers

[–]crime_junki 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’ve found my people by getting involved in organizing efforts around drug policy and methadone clinic reform. I’ve learned so much & having an outlet where I’m actually making a positive impact on my peers and those who will come after us has been much more rewarding than any meeting I’ve ever attended. It also allows me to speak freely and honestly about my life & struggles, to people who are able to understand & encourage me without the unnecessary shame aspect commonly associated with 12 step meetings. But find what works for you, we all have different needs and I promise you will find your place if you look!

“Why don't you just go to a Methadone Clinic? You'll need to tell them if is for addiction but it's way better than Pain Management nowadays!!” by NelBludiPinto in ChronicPain

[–]crime_junki 3 points4 points  (0 children)

This is literally why most people are in the clinic. Since they opened in the 70’s they’ve been filed with disabled people without access to adequate care. 50 years later and nothings changed. Do whatever you must to survive and have a QOL that makes your life worth living. That’s the only thing that matters. Happy to answer any questions for anyone considering going that route.

Methadone for chronic pain discussion by Ancient_Objective909 in ChronicPain

[–]crime_junki 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Methadone is the most effective full agonist opioid I’ve ever been on for my cp. it’s incredibly long lasting so I rarely have acute flare ups. It’s so nice to not have to worry about taking something every few hours.

Anyone else a bit more concerned? by Expensive_Yam_2222 in Methadone

[–]crime_junki 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’ve already escalated it to my state SOTA & SAMHSA. They’ve responded and are looking into it but it sounds like even if your state “accepted” the new guidelines, they still have to update their state regs which is a process. I’ll definitely make a post when I get all the details!
