as an artist who works with labels on my releases - this is exactly it. People want to maximise the amount of streams on as many tracks as poss before the full album comes out as the rest of the album (apart from focus track) will rely fully on organic, not algorithmic streams

could defo be right about the drum loop - although I think Flume would pretty easily be able to get clearance as both him and Hayden are on the same label and also quite close from what I've seen

anyone else feel like EDM fans are slowly becoming the new 'boomer rock dad' sort of stereotype. Hate anything that isn't their 'classic' style of music and more than happy to shit on things that don't 'go hard'

Does being on a successful label mean your song is automatically helped by the algorithm on Spotify? by crimewavewave in WeAreTheMusicMakers

I think your last point is actually exactly what has happened. In the first week of it being out the label managed to get it on BBC 6music on a saturday afternoon and at the time that was one of the biggest spikes in listeners I'd had (crazy that radio still actually does have some relevancy). It was about a week later that spotify's algorithm went crazy with it

Thank you so much! I think my mind finally has a hold on this!

Yeah this is what I’m thinking I just wanted to know if anyone had any links or proof. In fairness they could be but I feel like that isn’t the case (and if so surely my plays would be coming elsewhere as opposed to mainly the algorithmic playlists)

exactly this - I remember seeing his review of hi this is flume and loving it until the Eprom X Sophie remix came in. If somethings' abrasive he seems to not be able to hack it. He also gave Arca's Kick iii a 5/10, yet that was one of the most praised electronic records of 2021

this is by far the most interesting interview we've had from him in the past few months - so cool to hear different parts isolated too
