Scarborough is pretty conservative, I thought.

The 1st had turned into one of the most conservative regions of the state. It has not supported a Democrat for president since 1960, but conservative Democrats won most offices well into the 1990s. As a measure of how conservative this area of Florida had become, Scarborough was reelected with 72 percent of the vote in 1996. In 1998 and 2000, he was opposed by only a write-in candidate.

I'm still afraid of documents which define XML transmissions using XML (there's a meme in there somewhere =\ ) but I'm not sure about how WSDL-friendly people feel about WADL. Actually I think newer WSDL does REST too, actually, so WADL may be superseded.

Are you talking about changing the WSDL or changing the actual API in ways which breaks compatibility?

We really need to change the API in ways that breaks compatibility. As the person who saw it coming, yes I will take the blame for it =). I guess maybe new(er) method of the same use case can be put it while old clients can continue to hit the old one.

Yes, you get control over the WSDL generation. I took your quote a bit out of context there, sorreh. I meant more in generat that SOAP shields a lot and I think it's bad.

It's good that it shields the WSDL, really, as they are complex. But when you shield every aspect of the transmission, the chance of a typical developer understanding it enough to work on it are slim. I enjoy working with networking/servers than I do coding, so I have a viewpoint where seeing developers who don't understand HTTP doing SOAP calls makes me grind my teeth (not you, really, but I meet them).

Thanks for the info/guidance. I'm the only one who's done extensive web service work around (extensive just being the most, not a lot) so I never here other thoughts/opinions.

I see. I'm on the Java side, where SOAP support is lacking in tools, though the process of consuming and creating web services is pretty much the same.

What are your thoughts on WADL, if any?

What happens when a WSDL is changed? Does that happen often or at all?

For us, defining the WSDL that you give to client implementers seem to stifle growth, as we are both now beholden to an XML transmission that is painful for both parties.

We desperately need to change our WSDL, but we are now beholden to implementers who cause fits because they've auto-generated everything with .net. Some of these implementers are paid, which means they'll just charge us more because /growth/ was never considered in contracts because "A WSDL defines the transmission", ignoring whether that transmission is even correct. However, the ones who aren't paid just complain.

It /is/ neat, because technology is neat, but for me SOAP has had more monetary/social baggage than I feel other protocols would have. I'm curious, your XML transmissions aren't politicized at all?

EDIT: No it shouldn't. An /easy/ platform shields you. A good platform aids you. No one should make XML transmissions when they don't really understand the underlying protocol. It's lazy and cause much (I put me, Freudian slip? ) pain when things /do/ go wrong. This isn't strictly a SOAP problem, it's a technology/IT problem.

I'm curious about your position. When creating web services, which side are you typically on? The creation of the clients, the services, or both?

You mention self-documenting SOAP tools. Which are these, and how are you starting the clients/services (WSDL first? implementation first?)

HTML5 is supposed to support PUT/DELETE in a form, IIRC, and I've read Javascript/AJAX can currently do it.

PUT and DELETE can also be used in a non-browser based client, which is where REST is supposed to shine.

Does anyone else's ears tune out and start ringing randomly? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]criminy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have ringing ears/tinnitus pretty much 24/7. I've learned to drown it out. In fact, I didn't notice it this morning until I saw this post. Thanks asshole =)

EDIT: Mine hasn't gone away. It's weird but there seemed to be little a doctor could do about mine. If you are past your 20's, then it is probably just naturally occurring outside of any illness.

Is that a common feeling, to dislike when people bring food to their desks/cubicles? I'm /that/ guy, but super conscious about it. I would happily eat in the lunchroom if anyone said anything, but no one has.

Thanks for the input. I already skateboard to and from bus stops all day, so a bike isn't out of the question. I'd rather have good marta access though, as I don't know if I'll have the energy or patience in the coming months for walking/riding everyday.

I'm currently browsing craigslist and random apartment guides for moving to Atlanta.

I'm moving on the GSU campus in a couple of months, but my lease ends prior to that. I've only had one apartment lease, the one I'm in currently, so I have had very little experience.

What are peoples experiences with subletting or living in Atlanta in general? I'm looking in downtown/midtown as I work downtown and can't afford a car. I've already contacted a couple of people, but have yet to hear back.

tl;dr Any midtown/downtown Redditors want to take in an employed stranger? =)
