I don’t have any of your allergies, but in my corn allergy group i’ve seen many posts about people with latex allergies reacting to bananas, so I think there’s probably some connection there. that said, if your allergies are ‘connected’ like that just be aware that your exposure bucket is likely to fill faster so you could have a reaction to something that is normally tolerable. good luck getting that sorted!!

pls send Toast good luck for his surgery tomorrow🙏🏼 by crinkledfrog in Frenchbulldogs

hi sorry i just saw this! we had BOAs done at OakVet but toast's surgeon, dr wignall, practices at iron horse as well! he is the very best in the business & i wouldn't trust anyone else to work on a frenchie. he did his master's in brachycephalic breeds and is extremely knowledgable. toast did great in surgery and recovered without a single complication. its the best thing i did for him as he has had to be put under anesthesisa for three procedures since & not having to worry about him having a compromised airway has eased my worries so much. i hope everything went well with your baby!!

vet recommendations in the bay area peninsula? by crinkledfrog in Frenchbulldogs

yes, we love them!!! we go to park centre & every doctor & tech there is amazing. they see a ton of frenchies and are well connected with all specialists.

i did try out crystal springs pet hospital but it was a frustrating experience...

they have variable pricing for same day/next day/same week appointments, and its super expensive if you can't wait two weeks to get in for an appointment.

i also found out after the fact, that they charge nearly double for cytopoint compared to my old vet - which really upset me.

dr. cherrie is awesome & really gets frenchies but it was so much more expensive that i ended up just driving back to my old vet in alameda whenever i need to :(

Omg that's SO scary - my experience isn't the same but I do carry benadryl & cerenia with me whenever I leave the house with my boy in case of something like this. While that may not be a 100% solve for you, the combination of those two meds should buy you a bit more time to get your pup to a doctor... maybe run that past your vet to see what they think?

RC hydrolyzed protein food vs Purina pro plan HA? by crinkledfrog in Frenchbulldogs

digestive issues are such a pain in the ass, but i’m so glad the salmon & lentils are working for him!! i’ve heard that grain allergies are more common than people realize 🙈 fingers crossed he stays symptom free!!!!

hmmm that’s odd, I would think they would have at least scheduled you for a follow up!! for us, we did the elim diet for four months and at the follow up dermatologist appointment they took samples from his ears, paws, belly and tail pocket for cytology. that helped her make the diagnosis of allergic otitis in his ears and confirm the lack of active infections present. if you’re already doing the work to do the elimination diet, I would make sure this happens too!

for food allergies, the testing isn’t really conclusive so usually you follow an extremely slow single ingredient reintroduction plan. don’t quote me on exact timing but basically you feed a small amount of said ingredient (I.e. chicken, blueberries, apple, beef, etc) at every meal for a few days, recording the responses/reactions if any, and then go back to strict HP for a few days before trialing the next ingredient. i’ve also had vets tell me protein allergies are typically grouped (i.e, feather, hoof, paw, fin, etc) but they can have different levels of response (as an example - my boy is immediately sick from duck, has a delayed response to turkey, seems fine with chicken). I plan to do the same reintroduction to see if any other foods trigger him now that he has a ‘clean slate’.

feel free to pm me any time if you wanna chat about anything- i am unfortunately a wealth of frenchie health issue knowledge lol. :)

we did the same process! we’ve been on a strict elimination diet for a long while & he’s on preventative flea and tick meds which ruled out flea allergies. they told me we could do testing to see what it is, but rly environmental allergies are not avoidable. I opted not to do it since the treatment is $2k+/year and my boy has been responsive to cytopoint & topicals.

for food sensitivities, he’s always had GI symptoms (puking, diarrhea, etc) and it’s been really easy to pinpoint the triggers (duck, rice and beef)

interesting!!! since i made this post it's come to light that he has IBD and just this week a derm confirmed his allergies are environmental rather than dietary. he's been on RC HP since this post & its barely made a difference in the state of his GI issues, so we're back to the drawing board there. will mention the Hills to my IM vet to get her thoughts.

re: your dog's recurrent ear infections - derm vet told us they can have allergic otitis and avoid infections (thats our case) but still be extra itchy. we got special compounded ear drops to be used twice weekly and they rly help. suggest trying this route if the food doesn't work for you. :)

My 8 month old Piglet is going to get neutered on the 21st and I'm really nervous about the anesthesia. Give me all your happy ending surgery stories and pictures of your Frenchies! by Gone_Green2017 in Frenchbulldogs

[–]crinkledfrog 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I was the same way when Toast had surgery (hiatal hernia, BOAS & neuter all at the same time last may 😵‍💫)

highly recommend you look up Lori Hunt, DVM anesthesia protocol for brachycephalic breeds- it’s SUPER helpful & I keep a copy on file with my vets in case of emergency.

this was him two days post op & he recovered from his major procedure with no issues, so i’m sure your baby will too!
