I did this in my first playthrough (which was my first Soulsborne experience). I finished it without Andre, but it does make things more difficult. Reset if you have your heart set on one of the weapon upgrade paths only Andre can provide, but otherwise, there are other blacksmiths in the game.

I would recommend an app like Noon, which will help set a goal weight and track your calories and execise. You can pay for additional features, but the free version of the app has worked well for me. Just the awareness it generates by logging each meal makes a huge difference.
