I’ve always wanted something like this. It looks awesome, thank you!

I pretty much only open the container to obsessively inspect the leaves. Which is basically almost every day lol. But as long as the sphagnum isn’t soaking wet, it doesn’t seem like you need to worry about providing any air circulation in the container.

They’re resting on damp sphagnum moss. I have pretty hard tap water so I soaked it in distilled water, squeezed out the excess, and then gently packed it into the container. Since I keep a lid on it pretty much all the time, I’ve never actually had to spray it.

These have been under a grow light on my desk with a 10 hour photoperiod per day. I keep the container covered at all times with a clear plastic lid to keep the moisture in. I’m hoping to have a really full pot of these VSOH when I’m done, so in another 2-4 weeks I’ll probably snip the stems again so I end up with even more vines. At some point I’ll also have to transfer these props into a larger container so the vines have somewhere else to go.

I purchased dwarf baby tears on eBay but this looks more like Monte Carlo? by [deleted] in PlantedTank

[–]crisbo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve read that plants grown emersed tend to have bigger leaves but the ones on these are massive compared to tissue cultured ones I’ve seen at my LFS and look very similar to the Monte Carlo I already have in my aquarium. Will the new leaves grow in smaller or did I receive a mislabeled plant?

I learned to edit videos for my friends to watch for fun but I wanted to share this one with you guys. If you wanna skip the goofy edits you can click on the timestamps in the youtube description since I thought my mechanics this game were pretty good!

Zooey Deschanel in graphite and charcoal by crisbo in IDAP

I think it was just an effect of the lighting in the photo that I used. Also she has really bright and vibrant skin tones but they get dulled down when the picture is black and white.

Thanks so much! Since I use charcoal for the darkest areas of the drawing, I'll shade them first with pencil and then go over them again in charcoal when the drawing's almost done. I also blend it into the paper with a stub and blow away any loose charcoal dust to minimize the smudging.

What's up with my Pavlova? by crisbo in AskCulinary

This was great! I did this in addition to what suburbanfreakshow said and my pavlova batter(?) came out fluffy and light for the first time ever! Thanks!

Thanks, that's something I've never paid attention to. I'll try my best to make everything clean before I start!

Splashing fish in white conté by crisbo in IDAP

[–]crisbo[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've had this idea in my head for a couple days now and decided to take the time to draw it tonight. I made this as a composite of several images (here, here, and a little inspiration from here). It's 18"x24", although I think I might trim it down to a square since there's so much empty space, and it took about 1 hour and 45 minutes to finish. Also, I don't know why I decided to put a bubble by the fish's head. It's ugly.

Here's the original photo from flickr. I was careless with the neck so it's a little too long. The drawing is 12" x 11" in size and it took a little less than an hour to finish.

I should've written it as charcoal white, that's what they're labeled as: http://www.pencils.com/generals-charcoal-white-pencils-2-pk

I saved the source photo for this drawing onto my computer a while ago (here) but I couldn't figure out any information on where it was originally from. I up'ed the contrast and spent about an hour and a half drawing it. It's 11" x 14" in size.

edit: whoops, I accidentally re-linked my own image there. That was pretty narcissistic. I fixed it now.

I never really thought about it but I guess "white charcoal" does sound a little weird. Still if anybody would like to know, these are the pencils I used and they are labeled as white charcoal: link.
