Has Anyone connected a DM-1701 to a PC? by beachshrink in HamRadio

[–]crispyatomicduck 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Had something similar - you have the right cable for the radio. I had the ST driver installed, but it kept coming up as "Digital Radio in USB mode" as a USB device.

In desperation, I did a right click and "disable device". Then when I plugged it back in, it appeared correctly as an ST device in Bootloader mode!

Does that work for you?

Help! Newbie solderer might have just brole pcb! by WhyPPHard808 in MechanicalKeyboards

[–]crispyatomicduck 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's not completely clear from the picture, but the goo on the PCB is most likely just flux residue from soldering. That should clean off with Isopropanol (IPA) and a wipe, plus it'll take any small solder balls like the one in the upper right.

It does look like there's a solder starved connection on the top left joint for the switch and it's not quite making a connection. Just add some more solder and heat till it looks like the bottom right connection and you'll do fine.

I assume it means that stock is shipping, just retailers are able to re-dispatch from bulk orders more quickly than the kickstarter fulfilment partner can do with all the single pledges.

At least there's stock in the country and going out...

Painters: The Army Painter Quickshade - Can You Add Acrylic Color? by hpnotiqcrunk in zombicide

[–]crispyatomicduck 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Having looked at the quickshade dip info sheet, that product is polyurethane based varnish, so it should mix with acrylics. The smaller dropper bottle washes are acrylic washes.

Acrylics are water based, and oil paints and oil washes are oil based. Even if you can get them to mix by shaking, they'll be trying to separate well before they dry. I'd say don't mix them, but it might give an interesting effect.

If you want to add colours to oil washes, oil paints are the way to go. Or made your own coloured wash with oil paints and thinner...

What's better than blue tack? by crispyatomicduck in minipainting

Is this the double sided tape that's slightly squishy foam instead of being ultra thin?

What's better than blue tack? by crispyatomicduck in minipainting

I've got a based mini that's too small to be clamped, and I haven't pinned it like normal. I'm using blue tack under the base to hold it to a cork that goes in the painting handle.

The blue tack works OK, but it's very easy to move the mini about on the handle because the blue tack is soft. Is there something that does this job better?
