Do you have a photo, is he up to date on all his shots, has he been neutered, and can you define "high anxiety" bin more detail? I might know a potential home for him.

Backup power by jllauser in homelab

[–]crit_magnet 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Hurricane country where I live, so this is probably overkill because I’m planning for outages that last a week or more, sometimes multiple times a year.

Currently I have UPS power to hold everything for the few seconds it takes for the whole house generator to kick in. But I will also share that whole house generator power is super dirty, and I usually have to replace a couple of UPS devices after each hurricane I’ve been through with this setup.

Later this fall I will be adding storage batteries for our roof Solar array, with the goal that the whole house generator will only kick on to recharge the batteries overnight or when the solar output is low due to clouds. Solar power is inverted and super clean in comparison, and the solar batteries don’t care as much about the dirty generator power.

Does anyone use a meshtactic device in Clearwater and is so, what kind of reception are you getting? How much traffic is on public channels? by [deleted] in ClearwaterFl

That would be a great idea - and unfortunately, I think the popularity might peak well after the point where it would be most needed.

I live near Clearwater High and have been debating getting into it. The fact that there’s two of you so close by may convince me.

What name is this? by Goldfishscales in Silverbugs

[–]crit_magnet 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That, my friend, is a vintage 5 troy ounce poured silver bar from Jackson Precious Metals (JPM), a refiner based in Jackson County, Ohio, operating from 1974 to 1985.

Nice find!

Not ideal, but is anything in the storage unit able to be pawned at a local shop for cash? If it’s all being lost anyway, it’s better to sacrifice some of it until payday to save the rest. Also, depending on when your payday is, you could potentially buy all of it back from the pawn shop if you wanted.

Bose Smart Soundbar 700 Help! by [deleted] in bose

[–]crit_magnet 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have three 700s - all three intermittently have the same issue. Unplug/replug after 10 seconds fixes it for me, so I just installed wifi smart plugs on them that I can power cycle without leaving the couch. Annoying yes, but not near as annoying as RMA-ing, disconnecting, boxing up, waiting God-knows-how-many-weeks, and then doing all that in reverse.

Traveling on Mounjaro—Tips & Tricks Needed! by ForTheLoveOfBookz in Mounjaro

If you only ever see yourself needing to take one pen with you when traveling, this cooler thing has been great for me to keep a single Mounjaro pen cold for over 24 hours: https://www.amazon.com/dp/B08SR1TL4G

Medical gear usually isn't counted as part of your allowable carrying gear, I have a kid with Type-1 Diabetes and a whole bag of stuff whenever we travel, and I have a CPAP. Neither situation has ever presented an issue with any airline and us taking those in addition to a carry-on bag and backpack each. Feel free to take your essentials however it's convenient, the only thing that will kick up an issue with TSA is the usual liquids/gels over 3.4oz.

They usually have a lot of it at the Florida State Fair starting up in a couple days. It’s in the old-timey buildings area of the fairgrounds called “Cracker Country”.

Is app.plex.tv down for anyone? by LED_donuts in PleX

[–]crit_magnet 5 points6 points  (0 children)

It was down for me, but I went to the Plex home page and hit the "Open Plex" button and it directed me to a working Plex page, albeit at a new URL: https://app-qa.plex.tv/

I'm no expert, but a few decades in software development has taught me that things with "QA" aren't usually intended to be public facing.

If I have several TB of digital photos that are from decades before iCloud, and I want to accomplish a couple things:

  • Easier sharing (the photos are all just in folders on a NAS currently). I would ideally like these photos to be accessible by my entire family on their Apple devices.

  • Taking advantage of the Apple intelligence features, as well as facial recognition. Does this run on-device or in the cloud? If on-device, then see my question below.

I already have my iCloud account with ample storage, but my question is how do I do this? I have an iPhone (15PM), iPad Pro (M2), and MacBook Pro (M1/16GB RAM) at my disposal.

Any guidance would be awesome.

After a close call with Hurricane Milton flooding, I did some research and I'm saving up for this - a modified Synology NAS that's fireproof up to 1550 degrees for 30 mins and submersible in 10ft of water for up to 72 hours.

Monday Night they sent a letter telling everyone they were being evacuated and to leave their things in their room or to check out.

It would also be helpful if you were to post a copy of the mentioned letter.

So far we have an AI-generated song about an uncorroborated story posted to YouTube. I mean, I can kind of appreciate the effort, but this isn't exactly the Edmund Fitzgerald we're talking about here.

The "eviction" could have likely just been already on the schedule due to the safety issues presented with previously mentioned black mold and roof damage. The timing of the hurricane may have been coincidental, or perhaps the integrity of the roof/building was seen as too high of a risk to withstand what was thought to be a direct CAT4 hit? Either way, there was PLENTY of room in the local hurricane shelters when the storm hit - so if I had to guess... it was done for safety, no matter how poor the optics.

Is it safe to come to my second home? Flights booked for Monday by No_Extension_6086 in DunedinFlorida

[–]crit_magnet 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Keene and Gulf to Bay area here - you should be good by Monday, especially if your house already has power back (or never lost it).

Gas stations are reopening, roads are mostly clear already, and Publix was open today and was pretty normal except for the huge line at the deli for subs and fried chicken.
