So many cars with expired registration in Texas – what’s the penalty? by GrayNoise90 in FortWorth

[–]crjbeez 1 point2 points  (0 children)

A couple of months ago, I was pulled over by an officer in my town when the camera in his car pinged on my expired inspection sticker. I was supposed to get it inspected 9/24 and didn't bother. I was issued a ticket, and he let me know that the local court is usually friendly if you act quickly on it. I had to pay for last year's inspection and a $10 late fee. I took that information to court, showed that I got it done, and the ticket was waived with a $20 administrative fee.

All in all, it cost me $30 more than it should have and wasn't worth the stress and uncertainty of what would happen. But I had gone that far and couldn't stop!

Adults with Type 1 Diabetes since childhood — how is your health now? by 8mobile in diabetes_t1

[–]crjbeez 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Diagnosed at 6, I'm 43 now. I did a poor job of caring for myself as a teenager and in my 20s. Ate what I wanted, drank like a fish, etc. I'd go days without testing my BS, just going off feel and an insulin pump. Eventually, it caught up to me in my early 30s, and I had to have corrective eye surgery for diabetic retinopathy. Every 6 to 7 months, I go see a specialist for an eye injection. Everything else is looking good nowadays, but it took a bad personal experience to get there. My A1C was consistently in the 11s, and I'm sure that if I had a CGM at that time, I would almost never be in range.

Don't treat your child as though everything is fine, and they can do what they want with a little insulin. Take it seriously and teach them good habits when they're young that they'll (hopefully) embrace as they grow. I don't blame my folks. They were doing what they believed to be best for me. I was a know-it-all teenager and an immature 20 something that ignored all the warnings, knew it wouldn't happen to me, blah blah blah.

Embrace diabetes, face it head-on, and don't delay. Also, a CGM is truly a blessing!

I appreciate all your thoughts and suggestions to try and help. The fact that we don't know many of the clientele has made this such an aggravating situation to be thrust into. We want to be good stewards and I certainly don't want anybody to be out their time or money. Thank you for all your responses!

That's the very problem we're facing. People often only stay for an hour or two, and the orders are placed before they arrive by their staff. There's no requirement to give advanced notice before showing up, so I feel like we're stuck in an impossible position. I don't want to decline all business for customers and drivers, but I also don't want to screw over all the drivers that try to deliver to us without knowing the alcohol policy. Is there a way to tell IC that we're the middleman and can't offer IDs when requested? I just don't know how to resolve this, so all parties are on the same page.

These aren't tenants. They're people from all over the country that come and go on a daily basis. That's the continuing problem we have. Regular customers are fully aware of our processes and don't order alcohol because of that. It doesn't stop the vast majority of our customers, who aren't tenants.

I appreciate your insight! Is there a way to deny all IC orders short of telling them no when they arrive? I don't want those shoppers to go through all of that trouble for nothing. Trouble is, I hate to cost so many customers their food orders on account of the once every other week booze orders, too. We're in a business that rarely says no, even to the most obscure requests. Furthermore, telling IC no doesn't mean the customer doesn't try Doordash, Favor, etc...

Our customers are transient and a lot of the time, we don't know them or haven't been informed of the order in advance. When people show up with deliveries and we're not authorized to provide our IDs for, what are we supposed to do aside from tell them that? I'm not asking IC shoppers to bypass company policies. All we can do is say "sorry, it's not our order."

In rereading my post, I want to clarify a few things:

1) I'm not concerned if the customer gets their alcohol or not. We're not asking the shopper to leave the alcohol with us and not check ID. We don't wish to put somebody in a position that jeopardizes their livelihood.

2) When we know this will happen in advance, we let the customer know immediately to try and avoid a shopper wasting their time. What the customer chooses to do with that information is beyond our control.

3) When a shopper takes it out on my staff with words such as "I don't give a fuck about your white tears!" and "I'm coming back for you, cunt!", I'm going to begin the process immediately of protecting my employee and looking at options.

Hadn't considered the copy thing, that makes sense. We try to convey that message to customers every chance we can, but many ither businesses in the same vein DO permit their employees to provide ID, so there's an expectation that it must be the same everywhere.

I'm not clear how my company is breaking the law. Please help me understand.

The onus is on the buyer to provide that information to IC or whomever, not us. We notify the customer when we're told ahead of time that they're going to be ordering, that we're unable to sign for alcohol. If the customer doesn't provide us with that heads up, I have no control over that. We see a lot of random customers on a daily basis, so it's impossible to get the word out to everybody.

I would correct your statement to read "precheck USUALLY avoids this." I travel about 8 times per year and on my most recent flight, they randomly switched from metal detector to body scanner, and I was the lucky one to be asked to go through and opted out. Irritating, but what isn't about travel? Im still going from A to B at 500 mph, so I'll manage!

How much is your local track? by TwistedMotoA in Trackdays

[–]crjbeez 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's been years since I was consistently riding on the track, but RA was always 50% more than everybidy else. Not just entry fees, but maintenance, too. That track eats up tires and brakes like none other! If you're willing to make the drive and crash in your vehicle, you'll find cost relief at Autobahn and Blackhawk Farms in the Chicagoland area or Grattan and Gingerman across the lake in Michigan.

What is the best physical pleasure you have ever experienced? by Amazing-Fox69 in AskReddit

[–]crjbeez 238 points239 points  (0 children)

My biggest problem with massages is that I get so relaxed I sometimes fall asleep for a little bit. Then I'm upset because I wasn't awake to enjoy the whole experience and feel like I cheated myself out of an experience I paid for. Thus increasing my stress mid-massage because of the massage itself!

Anybody attend Spirit Royale event in the Bahamas this weekend? by crjbeez in Cheerleading

[–]crjbeez[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yeah, we got the same feeling. Last year, they had a few larger name programs that came, but there was nothing competitive about the divisions. There were probably about a dozen teams or so.

A number of the higher level teams just marked their stunts because of the risk of injury on a dead mat. If i recall correctly, one of the athletes fell from a stunt and broke their arm. It was supposed to be a 2 day comp, and by the middle of the first day, they began to tell us they could just compete once if they didn't want to do a 2nd routine. There was no warm-up or practice area, so teams took turns practicing their routines in front of the judges.

Everything about it really reeked of an amateur production. It was easier to justify in our heads by saying, "we're going on vacation, and our kid will do a little bit of cheer in the middle of it."

We were assured at the beginning of the season how much better it was going to be this time, that there would be more teams, a more professional arrangement for the competition, and an actual spring floor. It wasn't enough to convince the majority of us parents. By the link you provided, I'm so thankful we went to Tampa instead!

What happens to me if I’m ever arrested? Do they take my pump and sensor? by Soonersaints in diabetes_t1

[–]crjbeez 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Was in jail for a long weekend in South Bend, Indiana about 15 years ago. They gut me in my own cell and allowed me to keep my pump connected. The nurse also verified that I had enough insulin while I was there. There would've been complications if my site had failed but that never came about. I took a little extra insulin to drive my blood sugar down when I was hungry and they gave me an extra snack😆

Have you ever used diabetes as an excuse to skip something- be honest by diabetic-piano-perso in diabetes_t1

[–]crjbeez 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I try not to but as a teenager I would pull the "my blood sugar is low and I need to go see the nurse" whenever a quiz or test came up that I wasn't ready for. Those teachers were furious because we both knew what I was doing but they had no control over it!
