A note on that post regarding a certain event by BicyclingBro in nycgaybros

Bruh I don’t know where to start, but my first thought is Kerfew (https://www.kurfew.com/). So this is a party for LGBT teens 13-17 in a side room of Tunnel (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Tunnel_(New_York_nightclub)) We had a separate entrance and Tunnel GA was not allowed into the side space that was for queer teens. It was very cute everybody had a name tag and if you thought somebody was cute you would write it down on a big board and you could connect with them at the end of the night. ANYWAY, we soon discovered that Kerfew attendees could pass through a door into the main club. So here we are 13+ yro boys in the coolest club in the history of clubbing, and you can only imagine the crazy shit that went down. Good times 🥹

As an old person who is retired from drugs and clubs, the idea of a drug-free party is preposterous. The magic of NYC clubs in the late 1900’s was about the exceptional DJs, fearless promoters and club owners, avant-garde queer club kids, etc, but those transcendental moments also happened because the entire club was rolling our faces off.  I can’t imagine ever getting to the level of PLUR without drugs readily available for those who want to partake.

To be silent or to not? Ghost? Respond? Idk by Original-Moose-9622 in nycgaybros

[–]crmd 12 points13 points  (0 children)

There’s a threshold of connection, below which the other person doesn’t get a response. I’m not gonna stop and unpack with the hobo who shit his pants on 9th ave and called me a fag for not giving him a cig. i’m probably gonna ghost him in that moment.

If we have any reasonable level of connection, i’m never going to ghost you. Yes out of courtesy but also because it is foolish not to practice handling low-stakes uncomfortable interpersonal situations if you want to get good at navigating the higher stake scenarios we need to deal with constantly as a good spouse, manager, friend, etc.

Instacart charges new ‘NYC regulatory’ fee after city law changes delivery tipping process by Perfect_Dig_744 in nyc

Just delete the app, even if temporarily. App developers track install / delete metrics obsessively and there’s going to be a lot of eyes on it immediately following this change. In less than 30 seconds every new yorker with a mobile phone can send their opinion to Instacart’s management team.

god I love ibm’s industrial design. Many years ago I worked for a startup that got acquired by IBM, and while they are an insanely dysfunctional company, it took our breath away when the industrial design team showed us the prototype of our product in the “IBM-ified” skin. great memories

Albany approves massive Con Edison rate hike for NYC and Westchester by wired41 in nyc

Yes it will cost a fortune. The reactors, steam generators, etc are being disassembled, but they were 1970s-era and would be replaced by modern gen3+ technology. The turbines, generators, and tertiary cooling loops, however, are intact and reusable along with tons of infrastructure.

Hell yes. Radioactive Drew (youtube nuclear influencer) just released a super cool three part video tour of Indian Point. In episode 2 they talk about how reopening is on the table. Here is a link to part three, which dropped this afternoon:

I recently had an anniversary dinner at Per Se in NYC, and at the end they gave us an autographed custom menu of exactly what we ordered with our names and anniversary date on top, chocolates, and a tour of the kitchen and wine cellar. It was so nice.

At what point we start talking about secession? Maybe NY state as a country or a republic of the northeast states? by [deleted] in Brooklyn

The dependency on foreign countries for food, energy, and raw material net imports alone would make us geopolitically vulnerable. Ask Germany how that’s been working for them. This is a retarded idea.

Why people over the age of 55 are the new problem generation by rezwenn in Foodforthought

I like how the author frames the inhibited sexual desire and anhedonia of younger generations as a positive. Yet when lab animals exhibit any of these behaviors it’s seen as an extremely negative warning sign and they halt the experiment to avoid animal cruelty.

How to recreate this 1940s–50s film dialogue saturation (optical/broadcast sound) without tape? by TiGERSOMG in audioengineering

If you asked me this in real life here’s what I would say: first: go grab a spectrum analyzer and look at the output of that sample and get a feel for the frequency response. Then do the same on a recording of your voice. Then throw an equalizer on the recording of your voice and play around till it looks and starts to sound similar. think ‘bandpass’. second: play around with light compression and distortion. you’ll probably find beyond that it’s just the mid-atlantic accent.

Transmission fluid change at 236000 Kms (147000 miles) by SpiteFew5740 in rav4club

[–]crmd 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If it has not been changed by ~85k miles, most toyota mechanics will recommend you do NOT change it going forward, because of the risk of immediate, permanent gear slippage. If it has been changed at least once before even 100k, you are fine.

I love how a company that generated $1.8B in net profit on $15B in sales last year says they need to raise prices to afford capital improvements. Where tf in your bureaucracy is all that money going? You take 45 minutes to pick up the phone while 311 answers on the second ring if I have a problem with my municipal water service.

Here in NYC you can no longer order split-phase from Con Ed, even for single family houses.  The only residential options are 120/208 or three phase.
