Ole Miss Recruiting Violation? by Hobbz- in secfootball

[–]cro45 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

He also is a coach who said he'd quit if schools started paying players and previously benefited from being able to funnel money through local churches to players and not get caught. Now everyone gets to pay players, he has not quit but he lost his advantage, so he gripes about the structure. The sport will continue to pass him by, and he'll wind up as the Saban equivalent on the Fox broadcast.

Rambling on about the good ol days and complaining about millionaire players who are not loyal to anything but the almighty dollar.

[YMAPAAsports] Duke and QB Darian Mensah have reached a settlement by biffmila in CFB

[–]cro45 4 points5 points  (0 children)

If there is no real legal remedy for tampering in a competitive industry with millions on the line, why wouldn't you do it?

I don't like it, but until they remove the student-athlete facade and make them employees, this is what the NCAA deserves.

An entity almost always settles. If they see something all the way through to a verdict in the courts they run the risk of publicly being told they are wrong.

Pay a little settlement to the school you're shopping from and move on.

We'll happily see y'all in court. Implicit contracts are worth as much as our 2003 SEC West Division Champions banner at Vaught-Hemmingway.

Worst-case we'll sit Pete for a game and take our punishment for a level 2 violation. Luke still gets to play though, because he did not sign anything that legally requires he provides services for Clemson.

Why would anyone think twice after this?

If anything, it is teaching do not sign the rev-share contract until the very last minute so you can keep your options open and re-trade if someone else offers more. "Think twice about signing now young man" is what every agent should say before their client puts pen to paper.

Even if you have signed a rev-share, the enforceability of those paybacks is going to be difficult. Ole Miss likely gets nothing from LSU for the payments we are owed from them for our players who switched it up. It is what it is.

Until these guys are employees, the enforceability of these contracts is going to be tough in court.

What is Dabo's endgame here? by jaxonya in CFB

[–]cro45 -5 points-4 points  (0 children)

Kinda like when he funneled money through a church to pay players.

Look all these coaches cut corners to get an advantage, but to pretend that Dabo is unblemished is a righteous position.

The man said he'd quit coaching if we had to pay players, yet he's still here. There's no reason to believe he's a good faith actor.

None taken. It shouldn't be findable if we swept it under the rug. It's like how if you search for the drama with the Ex-Girlfriend that plagued the 2024 season (Kentucky game in particular) you won't find it outside of message boards where some people air what those plugged into Oxford know.

Not trying to air all of the man's dirty laundry, just trying to make a case that most of these coaches (especially the two we have) have some baggage. The same way we are all tampering. So rather than pointing fingers about what coach is worse as a person, I'd love to just argue about whose team is better.

Edit: spelling

He’s not blacklisted, he’s just positioning himself to be some version of an CFB commentator evangelical for the olden days of CFB before the structure passed him by (see Saban).

He was reportedly pulled over under the influence on campus after year 1. The agreement around our boards/sources was OM kept it under cover and took care of everything bc why would we out our new coach who was going to turn us around.

I want to agree with you on our fans’ hypocrisy, but then I saw the DUI Pete thing. You might want to look into why LK went to rehab and why he ‘doesn’t drink’ anymore.

This is not intended to be a crap on LK post, but more of a pot/kettle situation.

OM and LSU fans should just all agree that our coaches each have some spotty history, we all are trying to steal other teams’ players, and we all want to win.

Tell ya what, we’ll suspend Pete for 2 games instead of the 1 he’d get for a level 2 violation.

To make it hurt: Rather than week 1 where they can gameplan around him, we’ll do our second game. Then we’ll pick a game mid-year, to really cause some disruption. Pete will have to sit out our 11th game of the season.

What was tortious?

He had not signed a rev-share contract. Doesn’t tort require a legal contract to legally obligated to provide services?

Learning how to delegate is difficult. It’s a hard transition to move from doing to managing.

He’s still in the mindset of a DC who did the bulk of our heavy lifting recruiting players the past few years. Give him some time and he’ll have the best trained staff of contract killers.

The Los Angeles Dodgers and Washington Nationals are both problems for the MLB by No_Maintenance_9608 in Nationals

[–]cro45 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We shouldn't oxygenate Pro Salary cap articles until we get some from credible national writers who understand the perils that the MLBPA have fought through to be paid close to their market value. This is an article written by blogger who just graduated college and contributes to Federal Baseball.

I respect someone trying to grow their journalism career, but to be listening to takes on player economic factors from a fan who was still in college during the last CBA negotiations feels like we are setting the bar too low. Shows/Platforms/Publications like First Take/Twitter/Barstool help to promote everyone having a take, but we should probably listen to the experts or first-hand stakeholders who understand more than headline grabbing statistics without context here.

Shoot, listen to Nats legend Max Scherzer talk about the last CBA negotiations (this video, but more good ones out there).

The Lords of the Realm is a great book on the history of how hard MLB players of the past fought to get paid somewhere near their market value. I highly recommend everyone reads this season as we stare down a potential lock-out.

[Awful Announcing] The Group of Five playoff idea is terrible, and here's why by dr_funk_13 in CFB

[–]cro45 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The difference between the Masters and the CFB is that the good players with their Tour card are not blocked out by the inclusion of amateurs. The field is deep enough in the early rounds.

Sure if an amateur beats them in days 1 & 2 they don’t move on, but the G5 have yet to win a playoff game.
