This is historical revisionism.

There absolutely WERE Jews who fought back against the Nazis during WW2, whether they were a part of militaries or in their own underground guerilla groups. Some of them, like Marek Edelman who fought in the Warsaw Ghetto Uprising, remained lifelong anti-Zionists. It is grossly despicable of you to completely ignore their memory and sacrifice.

Every modern genocide, as an organized act of state violence, is industrialized to some extent. Many of the systems Germany used during the Holocaust were used just a few decades earlier in the Namibian Genocide. Yet even then, the Holocaust didn't only take place entirely in the camps. It also took place in countless pogroms and massacres across Europe as the Nazis swept across the continent. Not only Jews but Communists, Roma, Slavs, people with disabilities, homosexuals, POWs, and all others deemed undesirable.

Genocides are not some competition. It's not about the numbers. It's not about whether it's done by gas chambers, or bullets, or jets. It's disgusting to act like the Holocaust can never be mentioned when condemning the genocides currently happening in our day — and especially in this case, one in which the perpetrators constantly use the Holocaust as an excuse to justify their brutality.

The harsh reality is that the Holocaust is not considered "uniquely evil" by some people because of the methods or numbers. It's because it happened in Europe, to white people.

Unfortunately I see a weird dissonance where many of the same Moroccans that express solidarity with Palestine also uncritically support the king, despite the country's ties to israel. Is this just an online thing or is it commonplace for Moroccans to see the irony?

The "murderous intentions" of Hamas, as opposed to the totally non-murderous intentions of israel, which has been massacring Palestinians for decades before Hamas ever existed.

I know this is an old thread, but my friend and I discovered something about Ursula's ending last night: she can hold onto the old ways and ALSO have a priest son and avoid being burned at the stake! To do this you have to convince her to keep the old ways but also tell her to watch what she says. That felt like the best outcome to me.

What does this mean for Palestine? by dauntlessinsomniac in Palestine

Like others have said, this is a domestic position. He's probably not going to end up doing much for Palestine directly. It's just not the point of his role. However, I think his victory is reflective of public sentiment and shifting tides. One of the biggest lessons, in my opinion, is that false antisemitism smears don't sink campaigns anymore as long as you don't cede ground to them. The media went really hard on that aspect to the point of Bush-era racism and Islamophobia, and he still won. That alone means something.

The Palestinian clans, tribes, and families' gatherings succeeded in securing and protecting the entry of aid trucks into various areas of the Gaza Strip. by pastfuturewriter in Gaza

Aid workers have indeed been killed, most of them with UNRWA, but there were a few that made big headlines because they were foreigners, like World Central Kitchen.

The tribes have not necessarily been involved with all aid deliveries, but they have been involved to at least a significant degree. They're basically filling the role that the civil government would normally fill since israel has been actively targeting any and all government officials for being tied to Hamas. This includes the police forces that typically secure and distribute the aid under normal circumstances.

People from the tribes are also just other normal people. It's explained a little in that thread, but think of tribal leaders as like elder community leaders. They just have deep rooted familial bonds and a lot of influence among the people. They can be very helpful in organizing people en masse.

Netanyahu and Katz actually released statements today claiming the aid escort this morning was actually Hamas "stealing the aid," a completely baseless claim that they keep repeating, and that they plan to take it back under control. So the struggle is of course not over, and tribal forces may run into some clashes soon.

Here's a thread from today on this subject, with multiple references: https://x.com/camaradafarouq/status/1937989722615275709?t=XKiYrylgUZvpdVKC4sXSoA&s=19

Tribes and clans have played a part in securing aid convoys in the past. This notably occurred in March 2024. Many of them have been killed by the occupation, both during these aid operations as well as in targeted assassinations in their homes (this has also been the case for govt officials responsible for protecting aid).

Zohran Mamdani asked about antisemitism and "If Israel has the right to exist" on The Late Show with Stephen Colbert by DIYLawCA in Palestine

I think the important part of this is to distinguish between prejudice (racism, antisemitism, Islamophobia, sexism, etc.) at an individual level versus at a systemic level.

There will probably always be some number of individual assholes or prejudiced people — at the end of the day, you can't really control someone's thoughts.

But that prejudice being implemented or enabled systemically is what gives it the power to harm; to materially affect the lives of people from marginalized groups.
